I bought this OBD1 distributor recently off ebay to install in my B20 vtec/crx project and was wondering what exactly is needed to make it functional. Guy I won it off of said he thinks it's missing a coil as he thought it was running an external one. I also have this MSD SC Coil Driver Ignition (pn 6305). I have never run anything other than a stock ignition so was hoping I could get some info on whats needed to complete this cluster f*#k.
I know I need a new cap "obviously" but as far as what is actually missing off the dizzy i have not a clue and also what is needed to complete the MSD ignition system?? Do I need a MSD cap or can I use a stock one? A list of whats needed would help me greatly. Appreciate any and all help. Happy Holidays.

 

Yes you are missing the coil. The big empty space is where the coil belongs. As for the MSD stuff, I do not know but in to see what is needed cuz I want to add it also in the future.

 

But I don't need to purchase a stock coil if I'm running an external one right?? Anyone know this.......help???????

 

if you are using an MSD cap like this one then you will not need an internal coil. here is a pic of the distributor cap from an external coil set up.

first pic show a msd cap on the left and oem cap on the right. notice on the inside the red dot on the msd cap where the oem cap doesnt have it. that is added there for the external coil. so with the hole filled in the coil doesnt fit.

 

Ok I'll purchase one of those but my other question is on the MSD coil driver ignition (PN 6305) piece that I have in the first pic what/where can I purchase that? I'm going to assume it's a coil pack but I looked on the MSD and couldn't find one. Any ideas? Thanks
