Default Warning lights flashing like mad. Over charging/high voltage problem?

The SRS, ABS and EPS warning lights came on after washing the engine compartment. Still happens after drying and cleaning all connectors. The warning lights are turned on intermittently. SRS on most of the time, ABS and EPS now and then. The ABS and EPS lights are flickering with a high frequency somestimes and some times lit for moment before flickering again.

After a while I also realised that the battery was "cooking" (making sounds) and checked the voltage over the battery while reving the engine. It was between 17-18 Volts wich must be to high.

Then turned on all electrical functions and all the warning lights suddenly went off!`Turning off all electrical functions and the warning lights start flickering again. Reving the engine also effects, high rev=warning lights on, idle= less flickering lights.

What is the likely cause of this??? What is happening? What part to replace?

replace the alternator....had the same issue with a 06 CRV and a 98 sienna.

the voltage regulator in the alternator has gone bad....

oh ya....next time you plan to shampoo the engine compartment. avoid spraying water on the alternator.

Thx

This engine compartment will stay dry as a desert from now on

Another worry is that I let a Honda shop use their data logger to retrieve any error codes, but they failed. Could not get any connection to the computer (ECU?).

Could the ECU be a victim of the high voltage or is there a system that protects it so that there is a chance it might wake up again when charging voltage is fixed?

not sure if that has anything to do with the over voltage issue....it might if they had the engine running with 17+ volts running thru the ecu and their code reader.

replace the alternator and the codes should go away.

Thx non-VTEC. Alternator replaced and everything working just fine again. I suppose all the flickering warning lights was due to a not very "clean" DC output.

Now when this problem problem is fixed I got time to play with my new OBDII-interface.

Question: What errors will be stored in memory and what errors are just temporarily shown on the dashboard but not stored in ECU memory? Any trick that can be recomended to test if the ECU manage to store error codes in memory? What cable to unplug to provoke a stored error code?
