Anyone here remove their bumper supports on their EG hatches?
I didn't do it on a hatch, but a coupe and I just took out the rear one. It takes like 10min its the 4 bolts in your trunk to get it out. Wieghts about 10-15lbs maybe more.
hes right, they dont weigh near the 50lbs everyone claims that they do. just take off front and rear bumpers and undo the bolts. easy as hell.
Sweet...thanks guys. The way I see it is that if 100 lbs is = .1 in the 1/4 mile...every little bit will help. I've got some grudge matches I have to settle this weekend. I'm not scared of 2 of them...but one is a modded DSM (2nd gen) running like 15-18 psi.
Should be fun.

get yer car down to 800 pounds, and u will have no problem racing whatever DSm they have, jkjk
, nay takign the bumper supports out is cool of yer really lookin to make a diet, IE taking out pretty much eevrythign else to make a difference, but keep in mind, this is your life yer messing with, no support in the front will mean certian parallysis if u get hit form the front or Tbone someone, ****, i hope i didnt Jinx myself, knock on wood

1) How much weight will I save?
2) How hard is it to do so?
2) How hard is it to do so?
12 lbs. front bumper support
15 lbs. rear bumper support
------
27 lbs. total
Your mileage may vary - but it's gotta be close

It's very very easy to do - total time under 30 minutes including bumper cover removal/re-installation.
Lata!
ive done it to a couple of my cars ive raced in the past. but they were only brought out for the track and some local runs so i would lessen my chances of destroying the entire car. so becareful

on my EJ1, i removed the front one, but was unsuccessful in removing all 4 bolts in the trunk floor, 1 wouldn't budge, 2 got loose then froze, and one came out, but i was wondering what you guys did with the holes left in the floor
Im gonna take out the back because I figure if I get rearended I want the car totalted anyways......if I take out the front, the car will be totaled and my engine will be destroyed
they call them 5mph bumpers for a reason. they r basically worthless unless u get bumped at 5mph. just take em both out.
I took out the rear on my car but the front is what my intercooler is bolted to so that has to stay put... just as well a few pounds saved is hardly worth the risk
obviously some ppl r ****** ignorant and dont understand ITS NOT A RISK. its a 5mph bumper support, its not goin to save ur life. thats what front and rear IMPACT ZONES r designed for. god damn pay attention and read.
what did you guys do about the holes left in the trunk floor from the bolts?
it looks like those bolts thread into the support itself, so with it gone, the bolts won't stay in the floor.

For what its worth about people saying there are safety issues when removing them:
I was involved in 2 accidents in my old civic hatch. Both were from me hitting someone in the rear end. Both times my car slid under the car and all the damage was where the hood meets the bumper, actually on top of the hood. Both times my air bag didnt blow. The second one was into the *** end of a mercedes, after I got out of my car the benz's back wheels were off the ground.
So basically those bars dont do **** anyways. If someone rearends me I would want my car totalled anyways.

the supports help over 5 mph
my friend took out the front and rear supports, cuz he figured he'd never be in an accident.
then an old lady stopped in the middle of the road in front of him, because she couldn't get over, and he rearended her. nothing was wrong with her car except a few scratches, but the whole front of his car was totaled
just something to think about
