Default changes to my 97R...

havent posted it here, so i felt i would share...

have had my 97R for over a year now. so it was time for a change... and since NA is slow, i start there lol

when i bought my R i put a B20VTEC that i had built in it. it was ok...

slowness...err NA'ness for reference:

NA 2.0L = S2 Pro2+ cams, RS pistons, P72 head, chinese hytech, blah, blah, 220whp/148tq

money shot

NH0 valvecover

INTERCOOLER?!?!

its there....

AC, PS, full Koyo radiator, and most importantly BOOST

the new turbo setup:
B18C all stock + 70lbs Supertech springs
RevHard exhaust manifold
PTE 5031e .63ex (50trim compressor, 76trim turbine)
2.5in downpipe
3in exhaust w/N1 muffler (all black)
21x7x2.5 china-cooler (black)
2.5 cold pipes, 2.0 hot (black, w/black couplers)
PTE 1000cc injectors
TiAL 38mm wastegate
TiAL 50mm BOV
Stealthmode oil lines/Endyn oil plate
Motorola 2.5bar internal MAP
PBTuning/AEBS intake manifold
PBTuning 74/68mm throttle body
CROME/LEED tuned

the 2.0l NA motor vs the 1.8l turbo motor

single boosted run on the 1.8l... 300.7whp & 210.7ft tq @ ~10psi on 92oct

sorry since it has been raining for like 3 weeks i have no current pics, no burnout or ripper videos. but the only exterior change is my R has no tint now.

but here is my sexy bitch on a roll...

and parked...

NOTE: there where NO Type-R parts harmed in the making of this abomination... i cut a hole in an already ****ed up fender liner, and bent the **** out of some already bent AC lines lol and yes my sarcasm is thick, i dont care about the boost vs NA debate, i have built both, and happy with my decisions to build both...

Well executed boost setup, and a good looking 97. Wish mine were that clean, lol.

no, you arent. two blue lines are NA, red ones are boost. both have there peak tq around there, athen hold it to redline, but both motors have peak hp at the revlimiter.

thanks, but i really dont think its that clean. maybe its just cuz its my car and i know it inside and out?

as for the turbo setup. i have done many before. this is one of the tamer setups, but also the most solid, yet simple setups i have done. cast manifold, solid/quality parts, nothing overly complex. other than i fought like hell not to loose my AC/PS/radiator lol.

btw 300whp....just for starters, E85 in the future

Hey, I have basically the same setup on my R at the moment.

My only suggestion is to get a electronic boost controller or a boost solenoid and ramp/add duty cycle to the solenoid and get it to spool a bit faster. Mid range should pick up big time.

I made 309whp 220 on 14psi (w/ a 2.25inch downpipe/exhaust and a smoking low compression B18c5.)
Very interesting to see a similar setup.

I'm changing to a Precision 600hp cooler , 2.75 inch cold side (2.5 hotside), 3inch downpipe, half size radiator, bigger injectors(i had 440s), and my motor is sleeved now.

im currently running a "single stage" TurboSmart boost controller. its electronic/manual controller? with power off to the unit its off the spring (.6bar) and with it switched on its like .75bar (i hate this fvckin boost gauge). seems to work ok for now. 1-2 off the spring, and when im playing then the switch is on
i use to have a AVC-R, worked ok i guess. never actually got it working the way it was intended. motor had a catastrophic failure lol

plan is to run some E85 this spring and push it to the 450whp range. and maybe a built/semibuilt motor this spring/summer. but we will see. and if i put a built motor in her i will probably swap to eCtune w/boost control.

Looks nice. Dave is a great tuner.

You in the north end? I don't see too many '97R's around WA.

You should definately run a MAC boost solenoid (~$30), and run boost by gear and electronic boost control. You would need CROME Gold (I think Dave has this) or buy eCtune, Neptune, or Hondata S300.

Too bad you gave up on the N/A Boost is fun though...

yeah in the north end. there are a couple 97s in the area now. i see another one often also. was in your end when i was getting her tuned with Dave.

yeah deff be running the MAC soleniod. i didnt think that CROME supported the boost by gear? either way i will probably be swapping to eCtune, as Dave seems to prefer it anyway.

NA got tired. those stupid cams (Pro2). always had a poor idle. suppose they just needed tuned and actually dialed in. but i have always been a turbo guy. just love it. if my R would have stayed NA i would have sold it and bought an EVO...still might

I was going to say the same thing. I don't know that I've seen a '97 (in person) in WA/OR.
Very stealth, looks great. Maybe I will get to see in person at a meet some time.

CROME Gold offers boost by gear and EBC. I love eCtune though, I have been tuning with it since this summer, excellent product and support.

You just needed some patience with the Pro-series cams. My Pro3's idle 850rpm, fairly steady with only a hint of cam. You can always go Pro1's with boost, Tony1 and the other FI guys seem to like the results.

You can't beat the performance/$ with an EVO-9. Tuning program is free + DP/Exhaust and you are running high 11 sec on street tires on the stock turbo.
