Honda & Acura V8 Development Continues
Honda will continue its Japanese V8 development by racing in the Super GT Series with the vehicle that is usually called the HSV-10 or HSV-010. There is no sign of the V10 that has apparently been put on the shelves, excluded from even the racing programmes, but the ongoing development of the Japanese V8 is a very good sign for people who continue to long for a V8 motor in North America.

This car will debut March 20th at the Suzuka inaugural race of this series.

The all-American Acura V8 will also continue to be raced in both the LMS (European) and ALMS series in the Acura ARX-02.

Although they've made no secret that they deliberately put away their V8 plans for the present, owing to an unfavourable economic climate for the types of vehicles in which an Acura V8 would appear (FR-SH-AWD RL/Legend), there seems to be every hope that we will eventually see a Honda or Acura V8 introduced.

HPD was behind the ALMS program from day one, they put the Acura name on it for marketing.
The V8 in ALMS cars V8 was built developed from the ground up in Santa Clarita.
Just like most pro motor programs (Rousch/Yates, Hendrick, etc) the teams don't own the motors, in fact usually they aren't even allowed to touch it, with the exception of putting a motor in the car.
The teams "lease" the motor, part of the lease program is having a HPD engineer with them at races/testing.
HPD= Honda Performance Development= Santa Clarita, CA

Fantastic! That's an amazing looking car.
Amazing. I was beginning to wonder how throughout this crappy economic situation an American luxury car brand could race in such an expensive series. It wasn't Acura all along, they just provided a motor - albeit on a lease - and still had their branding spotted all over the car! Looks like a win-win situation seeing as how Acura got their share of recognition and HPD made a name for itself winning the 2 classes. Ofcourse you'll have to be alittle more than your average Joe just tuning to watch racing to even know Acura themselves weren't behind it all. Pretty clever.

also to what slammed said..from my understanding. the reason the teams are not allowed to touch them is mostly due to the fact that they are "sealed" motors. so if they are not in spec it falls back on the builder which in turn will build them to "spec" to keep reputation/business practices..procedures..etc. correct?
also anyone agree that the car looks like a 350z from a to c pillar??

Keep in mind gents that during the early 80's Honda was tuning F-1 cars from Japan during races in Europe. To which F-1 adamantly protested.
Of course no one will ever admit this, but honda was the first to remotely tune a car in mid race.
This is why we love the brand so. because of their innovation and foresight.
Some of you might of been too young to even know this.

All this v8 developement can only mean one thing......NASCAR........good luck
It seems unlikely to me because they're always justifying racing as a developmental programme.
There's too much weirdness required in NASCAR for it to be of any use to Honda/Acura. From the silhouette format to the tube frames to the lack of drive technology and computerised engine management...it doesn't make sense.
The sound of the engine (flat plane?) paired with that transmission (sequential?), and then to add the lines of the bodywork. That car is just phenomenal.

Thanks for sharing the videos. The last one is a real treat.
.
After hearing the videos of the HSV, the "spy videos" of the "2011 NSX" are just underwhelming. The thing sounds hideous.

While I indeed may be part of the lunatic fringe, there is some evidence thus far.....

Fuel Injection has also been reported to be on it's way into Nascar's highest series. Mike Helton's absolute silence when asked about it in an interview last year probably means it is on and he is against it. Right now, Nascar claims to not be able to police the required computers, but we all know they could just hand them out.
