88 Crx Swap Thread
Hello all,
I am a little ways into my project already but I figured I would start a thread so I could ask questions without flooding the thread page. I also have to post some picks while I go because I know how much yall like that stuff and so people can point out when I do something wrong.
The car is a 1988 Crx Dx that was fairly stock before I started. I am putting in a D16Z6 engine from Japan (ZC on the block) and doing the OBD1 swap and on and on.
Here is the car:

Here is the engine:

The old engine died on me while I was at college. I had to pay $120 for a uhaul dolley to get it home. I think its the water pump but I'm not 100%. Truthfully I don't care because I'm probably going to give it away.
Here is the old engine still in the car...

And here it is out of the car...

I'm not sure if anyone remembers but I posted a couple of days ago about the axle, this is what I had to do to get it out...

As you can see, it is still seized in the transmission so I'm PB Blasting the hell out of it and hopefully I can get it out of there. I ended up breaking a part of the housing trying to get it out of there...

I will be updating this thread with progress and questions and whatnot so tune in often. I guess now I should move on the the tech question. I am trying to figure out exactly what transmission I have so I searched and found that it is definitely an 88 (no rings on the input shaft) but I need to put the transmission in first gear to test to see if it is an si or dx. How do you put it in first gear while it is out of the car?

OMFG!
that's exactly how my car looked, and thats the exact same swap i threw in there.
it overheated busted it up and now im sitting on a b16 ( Picking up an LS soon )
i love the way it looks BTW. if you need any info LMK.

I know this totally off topic, and probably been covered before, but I have a 1989 Honda CRX DX and I put a ZC engine into it and I noticed the wiring harness has three plugs on the passenger side can anybody help me out with what this does and if it can be cut off and what do I need to do with the pin outs on the other plugs Driver side and passenger side. Also I was wondering if I should cut the wiring harness off my harness on the driver side to make it work or cut the ZC harness.
Anything will help.
Thanks Camron.

to the op the swap is looking good...my axle is seized in my tranny also but i haven't ripped it off yet to replace it.
New update, the piece of the axle is still in the transmission and I'm scratching my head on how I'm going to get it out. Tomorrow I'm going to get a ball joint separator and see what I can do. I have been working on the Z6, new gaskets, seals, etc. and I am almost finished with that. I'll try to post some more pics tomorrow.
Next step is to start with the wiring which I'm sure I will get held up on so I'll probably be asking questions. If I am understanding correctly, since I have a DX, I have to reroute the plug on the driver side engine bay (the one with all of the DPFI plugs) to the passenger side of the engine bay with the other main plugs? Seems like a bit of a hassle but I suppose its necessary for a good clean look, which is what I'm going for of course!

Im pretty sure it was in neutral when I took it out. I tried the ball joint separator on it earlier today with no luck so I sprayed a **** ton of PB Blaster in there in hopes of better luck tomorrow...or i could just throw it away and get an si tranny...we will see
Ok, I've managed to get the damn axle out of the transmission. It took a total of about 10 hours with wedges, a slide hammer, and a lot of beer but its out. It looks to me like there are aluminum deposits on the shaft that were holding it in, beyond me but at least that part is over. I noticed a sensor on my new engine that is broken and needs replacing and I have no idea what its for. Here is a pic

MAP sensor maybe? I don't know, maybe someone else who knows can chime in.

Ok, I'm knee deep in wiring right now and a little confused. I'm trying to go by the guide at this website http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/obd0toobd1swap.htm. First question: for the injectors, I know you can simply wire the 4 signal wires that go to the ecu but what about the other (yellow/black) wires? I understand that they need to be soldered together but where do they go from there, a ground? I also started the distributor which I thought was gonna be straight forward, but there are 2 extra wires on the obd1 plug that are not there on the obd0 plug. The guide I was using doesn't explain where to send these wires. So where do they go? By the way I have already done the dx to si wiring where I routed the 4 wires into the engine bay (2 injectors and 2 crank angle sensor wires).
I am using the obd1 injectors so I don't need an injector box but I have a dx harness and all of the other guides I've found are based on an si harness. Would you know which ecu wires the extra distributor wires connect to?
I mean the obd1 injectors are "saturated" where as obd0 are "peak and hold" and require the resistor box. The question I'm asking is where do i route the yellow/black wires after I join them? Also I'm still stuck on the distributor as well, so any advice on where to run the 2 extra wires would be very helpful. Happy New Years everyone!
I understand that is how you do it with an si but mine is a dx so after I solder all four of the wires together, do I need to run that somewhere else like ground or something? Or do I just solder the four wires together and that's it?
Connect the yellow/black wires from the two DPFI injector harnesses and run it to the yellow/black wire on the injector resistor box
So on the left of the diagram the wires labled C from the injectors go to the yello/black DX ecu wire and get soldered together

Thanks beansandrice, that diagram is really helpful. It also solved the "where do the other wires go on my distributor" problem. I appreciate the help and hopefully today I'll post some more pics of progress as I am redoing the whole interior as well.
Ok, two more questions for you fine honda folks. First, there is a sensor that I am unsure of. Anyone know what it is? It is the one in this pic with the green and black wires running to it.

Second, there is a solenoid looking thing on the fuel rail that has a hose coming off of it, what does this run to? It is in the following pic.

I am waiting on motor mounts to come in and then she's going in!
