Default Post H22 swap issue: Sounds like TB is rubbing, but it's not the pump

Hey guys,

I need some help. I just got done swapping the H22 from my Prelude into my '92 Accord. I had absolutely NO issues with the engine before I pulled it out. It's a known-trouble-free engine.

With that said, while the engine was out, I replaced the thermostat, pulled the valve cover off (just wanted to see how it looked and put is back on), and I did attempt to remove the VTEC solenoid to replace the filter but I never got it off completely. I tightened it back up before I took it out completely.

Hope the background info helps.

When I double-checked everything before I attempted to start it, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I got in, cranked for 10 seconds and waited for the gas to reach the engine. Attempted to start again and it fired right up. Ok, as for the sound, it's pretty loud. It's a weird sound. Originally, it sounded like the power steering pump was dying, just louder. I checked it while the car was running and it didn't seem to be coming from the pump. As I moved over the engine, it sounded like it was coming from under the valve cover. Looked around, but couldn't isolate the location of the sound. It also has a sound of belts rubbing. Sorry, trying to accurately describe the sound. :-/

The sound isn't consistent. It will get loud, slowly almost go away, then come back. No pattern to the sound at all!!

I pulled the VC to see if maybe the timing belt was rubbing. There was SOME residue in there, but nothing to make me say that was definitely the problem. In fact, I am pretty sure it's not. The TB is on the edge of the cam gears, the way it should be.

Also, another thing to note. The only thing I have hooked up is the knock sensor. I do not have the VTEC solenoid, pressure switch, or IAB's connected yet.

Anyone have any ideas? I need to get this car running again. This weather is the reason why I bought it!

Thanks!
