Low fuel light/fuel guage
I don't know what happened I think my low fuel light recently stopped working
my needle was pointing at the red line at the E (empty mark) and the low fuel light still didn't go on.. I didn't want to run out of gas so I fueled up and it was around 10.5 gallons... if I recall in the past the low fuel light would have gone on at this point already... I don't have time to go buy a new bulb until this friday or saturday...
but are there other things I should be checking? the fuel guage works and indicated it was near empty when I fueled up could the low fuel light bulb/light have burned out? or is the low fuel light/sensor separate from the fuel guage reading/sensor?
another thing to add.. I've never had any aftermarket guages or anything... so whatever went wrong w/ the guages isn't something caused by me taking them apart or popping the needles off or whatever... I filled the tank full and topped off until a little fuel came out and the fuel guage registered to the full "F" mark.. I'm going to try to run this tank pretty low and see if the low fuel light comes on.. but in the meantime do you guys know of a fix or how to check the low fuel light sensors? I'm going to try to get a new bulb this weekend...
also I don't recall if the low fuel light is supposed to light up when you turn the ignition to ON and all the other lights light up (before you start the motor)... if its supposed to be illuminated (the low fuel light) i guess that would be a way to tell if the bulb is blown.. thanks in advance for any help on this matter...

I did a search and only found this https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=251278 when I searched "fuel light/low fuel light"
can someone please tell me when you turn your ignition to "ON" position before the start and it turns on most of the instrument/warning lights.. is the low fuel light one of the indicators that lights up during the "check"? I'll go check my car later to see if it turns on.. but w/ a response from someone whose light is working then I could know if its my bulb or the sensor.. thanks in advance...

thanks for the reply.. I guess that scraps the method of checking if the actual bulb is working.. because I was thinking when you turn the key to ON (BEFORE starting the motor) when it illuminates a bunch of the check/warning lights... that it might turn on the low fuel light just so you can see the check/warning lights work.. but I guess not...
well I'm gonna buy a new bulb later this week.... how do I go about checking the sensors or whatever else might be wrong?

You can check the bulb by taking it out and put the bulb on the turn signal or check engine slot. I really doubt ur light bulb is out. That bulb is hardly ever on. (at least on my car)

any1 know how much the sensor for the low fuel light would cost or how to go about checking it? the fuel guage works fine.. it read "E" and was at the level of the red empty mark and I fueled up 10.3 or so gallons which is normal for a low/empty tank.... sorry I don't have my helms accessible right now.. I'll try to look in the manual 2nite....
EDIT: my friend told me to wait until the tank is on "E" via the fuel guage.. then drive and park the car on a steep incline (nose/front end up) and then turn the car off then back on.. he said if its really low on gas and on an incline the low fuel light will come on... my tank is full right now so I guess I'll see if it activates the low fuel light that way before I take apart my cluster and start swapping bulbs....

the incline/decline was what i was gonna suggest .. to check the light ...
hmmm i was gonna say maybe the fuel sending unit was messed up .. and maybe was causing the needle to read inaccurate .. but you said it was on E .. and you filled 10.5 so that sounds right ..

#24 is that fuel sending unit ... but it sounds like it probably is good ... unless ?? it has more than one meter function and is also tied into the light somehow ... check that part out in the helms .. see what it says on how that fuel sending unit is suppose to function ... other than that ... light burned out ???
hmm nothing out of the ordinary with the fuel ? like the cap was screwed on tight and you could hear the pressure release when you unscrewed the cap ?i dunno if the meter also reads pressure .. i dont know .. hehe .. i recommend looking at that part pic in the link .. and check the helmz .. and go from there

yeah I don't have access to my manual right so I'll have to look at it later on tonight... I'm also going to wait until the tank goes to "E" as indicated by the fuel guage.. then drive up on a steep incline to see if the light goes on before I start taking apart my guage cluster to swap bulbs..
thanks for the link $53 isn't bad if thats the actual problem/fix for the problem.. your link was for an LS but I can't imagine a GSR sending unit to be that much different or cost that much more.. all good... well I'll try and run it a couple more tanks and also test the incline on "E" method to see if the low fuel light goes on.. its not that big a deal I guess since the guage still works but it'd be nice to get everything working you know...
I always screw the cap on tight at least 3 or so clicks on the gas cap and I'm the only driver of this car (dad won't touch it/says its too low/looks like a young kids car, mom doesn't really like driving stick, sister doesn't like driving my car or any1 elses, etc).. so I'm the only person fueling up... I'd have to look at the receipt but it was either 10.3 or 10.5 gallons that I fueled up when the fuel guage was on "E" but no fuel light was on.. the total was around $20... and if i recall gas is 1.90 for premium 91/octane.. so 10.5 gallins sounds about right....
I downshifted and took it to redline to see if that would activate the low fuel light before I got to the gas station but it didn't so I just fueled up.. I'm pretty sure in the past the low fuel light would be on at this point (needing to fill 10.5 or so gallons and downshift/redlining the car at this fuel level)...
last time I got a smog check they did a pressure test/pressure check on the fuel cap and it checked out fine... I'll check the manual when I get home.. in the meantime any other suggestions/help/input/advice is greatly appreciated and thanks for previous and and further replies... ...

Mine went out for awhile now and did everything the helms manual said, except for checking the ground. To check if the bulb works, you just have to unplug the harness from the fuel sending unit, use a jumper wire(can't recall which ones at the moment) and turn the ignition to the on position. The low fuel light should come on. Let me know what wrong with yours if you ever find out. Might be the same problem.

awesome... Boiiiiiii do that .. because it doesnt take long to take out the back seats ... the Lid to the fuel tank is right under the seats
not hard to figure out from there .. if the light comes on ... problem is isolated to the fuel sending unit or fuel tank .. if it doesnt .. burnt out bulb or wiring issue

Ok thanks.. unfortunately I don't have the time to wrench around until this weekend.. I'll probably be on "E" so I can do the incline method my friend suggested also... in the meantime any other input is suggested.. I'm about to leave to go home to look at my manual but won't be able/don't have time to take anything apart until this weekend.. thanks every1
