'95 EX 2.2 A/T sudden failure
While going for a shake down spin in the Accord(new timing belt) the transmission flared up badly twice on a 4>3 downshift. I was only able to reacquire 3rd gear both times after selecting D3 from D4, then manually upshifting back to D4. Within 5 miles of home the transmission gave up the ghost.
This is the second transmission in the car(O/O destroyed original by hitting a rock at speed) the current unit is from a '97 LX.
Outside of being 225Kmiles on the car the transmission was working fine.
Fluid level checked out fine, didn't seem to be burnt or brown. Shift solenoids all appear to be operational via the simple 12V test. They all click.
I am wondering if due to the incorrect belt installation that the transmission may have been damaged through the incorrect throttle cable angle. I am assuming that the transmission control cable is similar to other throttle valve cables on automatics.
Due to the horrid install of the timing belt, the tensioner was not working correctly allowing for a lag in power delivery after throttle input. The car was driving as if it had bad turbo lag. I am assuming that the cam was retarded slightly causing power loss. In doing so the P/O drove the car around like this for awhile. Excessive throttle input for a given road speed would effectively created a scenario where the throttle valve was excessive for the given road speed. And incorrect pump pressures were seen by the transmission for a given gear for an excessive amount of time.
Does this sound plausible? I want to verify that was the real reason the transmission inexplicably failed before placing another transmission into the vehicle.
This only dawned on me as to why a perfectly good transmission would suddenly fail in all gears, and only does it sometimes 'catch' a gear.
Does anyone know where the pressure/test port is on a AOYA/BOYA(?) transmission? Looking at this web page http://techautorepairs.com/transmission.html I looked in the vicinity for a test port, but only found blind holes and dry bolts. Thanks gang.

Located a ~40-50K mile Japanese transmission(w/TC) from a local importer. $450 w/6mo-6kmile warranty.
Seems like the best deal.
Shops quoted 1800-2400 for a 'refurbished' unit. Which can translate as actually being rebuilt to a working Japanese import
Called Honda of Hayward and the rough ballpark was $3500-4000 for a 36Kmile warrantied rebuilt unit from Honda.
Any input with those that have installed an imported automatic would be greatly appreciated.
Looking at the Chiltons and FAQ its seems fairly straight forward.

what a joke, 3500-4000 dollars will get you another accord, and a 98-2001 accord at that! lol
i would swap the trans and sell it and buy a new car, thats alot of miles, time to move on

Picked up an imported Japanese transmission on the 22nd. Out the door with tax it came to $493.88 IIRC.
Japan Engines, located in Hayward. 6month/6Kmile warranty to boot.
Not bad.
I have no idea how they will know if I don't drive it to begesus and back in 6months :D
After we had loaded the transmission, and were about to take off, one of the guys gave me a 'drive plate'. I'm assuming this is a flexplate?. On it is written F22A. Since this is an F22B1 engine, is there a difference? And do I have to worry about anything or can I just retain the existing drive plate?
