Default embarrassed to even admit this...

90 sedan, girlfriend broke the key off in the driverside key cylinder. has anyone ever had this happen? if so, how did you go about removing it?

its broke all the way in so i cant grab onto it. also, while im doing this, is there a way to remove the "safety" feature of the driverside door only being able to unlock/lock when the inside door handle is open? its got power locks with a keyless entry but this door lock never popped with the remote due to this feature.

Go keyless, I don't see why it wouldn't lock/unlock with the alarm unless the actuator went bad

let me first say that i know hondas have this feature stock to prevent you from locking ur keys in ur car!

anyways when i use my remote, ALL the other doors unlock/lock with no problem. the driverside lock tab MOVES up and down SLIGHTLY, but doesnt unlock/lock.

i've had the car for over a year and have always had this problem, never looked into it tho...

i'm thinking there's something wrong then.. the lock should be able to move freely without pulling the handle if the door is closed. and i assume when you lock your car via remote, the door is closed lol.

well yea, the unlock/lock is audible also with a beep and beep beep for lock/unlock respectively.

im thinking of taking it to an alarm place, i'll remove the panel myself and take it down just bare and see what happens. i have a hard time spending money on crap like this tho..

is it really "hard" to remove the door handles? its only 3 bolts right? i've tried at the junk yard cuz i wanted to put rear sedan handles for my fronts since i never use my key. i've never had any luck fitting a 10mm 1/4 socket wrench in there or using an open end 10mm.

if anyone has an easy way of doing this, let me know and i can have this **** fixed this weekend.

its pretty simple to remove the door panel and access and remove it all completely.

and no theres not a simple way to disable the door feature. its possible but not simple.

the panel isnt a problem for me, its getting the damn door handle off. i've tried at least twice and gave up each time cuz i cant fit anything in there!

if i cant "remove" the feature, fine, but i'de still like to know why my driverside door cant unlock/lock remotely or with the inside power lock switch with the doors closed.

Go down the your local hardware store and buy a coping saw blade. The saw blade is small enough to get in there and you might be able to get it out this way.

Break off the end and of course you need the teeth to be on the pull stroke. I have used this twice so you can try it out.

the OUTSIDE handle(where your piece of key appears to be in) is removed from the INSIDE

Remove the lock cylinder from the door - I believe it's held on with a C-clip, it's been a while though, I might be wrong... you can then disassemble and reassemble the lock cylinder. Be damn sure you put it back together in the same order you took it apart though...

do you think the handle and trim just pops off from the outside?

no, it doesnt...

you remove 2 10mm (socket) bolts from behind the door panel.

but more directly to your situation, you just pop off the E clip that holds the lock cylinder in place and the lock assembly will just fall out.

you can then rekey the tumblers if you need to get a new lock cylinder.

3 ppl telling you the same thing.... you ought to listen better.

dude i am listening, im not confused about anything!

im only stating the fact that when i've tried to remove the door handle from the inside like you're supposed to, i've had problems getting a 10mm socket in there for some reason. i probably wasnt trying hard enough, its as simple as that.

im not ignoring anyones suggestions/methods, i dont want to remove the tumbler itself because i will be getting rear sedan handles in place of my front handles...then go to an alarm shop and find out why my driver door lock doesnt pop up or down when locked/unlocked with the door closed.

from what i remember, there is only like 1-2" of clearance from the nut to the inside of the door. so a socket wrench wont work. and it isnt a straight shot for an open end is it? i havent done this in a while.

you are gonna replace the lock cylinder right? well next time you should take an open end wrench. and of course its not a straight shot to the handle. i think you know what your doing. itll just take a bit more fiddling to get the job done.

im not replacing the cylinder, the reason im removing the door handle and putting a rear handle is because of the broked key. i have no intention of removing the key from the lock, im just gonna toss the assembly.

and yes, i know exactly what im doing. i just never took the time to really "try" this at the junkyard.

are you certain that rear door handles will actually fit the front doors? id say they are a bit diff in size perhaps. you really need not to do that. your removing the handle anyways...replace the lock cylinder, you dont have to pull the broken key out to remove it. done and done. why swap entire handles?

btw, whoever installed the power door locks installed it incorrectly. unlocking of the door should not be an issue if you actuate the right push rod.

you can swap rear door handles to the front. its been done. pretty straight forward.

im giving up on this thread btw. this guy just doesnt get it when ppl are trying to be helpful.

what are you talking about? i was asking the easiest way of doing something..got a response..then i commented...then i get something unrelated to what i was asking...i respond again.

how do i not "get it"? im catching flack for not being able to remove the door handle even tho i stated many times i've only tried it quickly at the junk yard.
