Default Cranks but won't start

So i recently got this car running and i am having this odd problem, i just wanted to see if anybody else had this happen.

When the car runs for an extended period of time then sits for 10-15 minutes it will just sit there and crank. It will eventually start up after a few minutes of sitting and cranking. I was able to pull the fuel pressure test port and i had fuel there so i assume it has fuel to the rail. Any clue what could cause this? I figured i would post here before i spend hours diagnosing it to find its something simple.

However when it sits for a long period of time, like overnight it will fire right up. Or if you shut it off and immediately start it, it will fire right back up.

A few notes on the car: 91 DX LS swapped. stock motor with only an intake and an STR fuel rail. The car runs very well and just passed a pollutions test. However it is throwing a code 43 (fuel supply) and seems to be getting **** poor fuel economy.

Any suggestions?

check the main relay, code 43 usually an early warning sign that your main relay going out.

When I had my str fuel rail on, I had a flooding issue.

Really? I will have to put my stock one back on and see if it helps.

From all i have read it sounds like a main relay. I have pulled it out and tested it before but now i need to warm it up somehow and test it when its hot.

Yea that is a very good possibility. I was just letting you know I had the same issue and it was my fuel rail. I have three extra main relays in the glove box just cuz they go out so often.

Update:

I pulled the relay and tested it per my service manual and everything was ok. I then put it on a heater at my house to see if the heat affected it... still ok. I will hopefully be able to get the stock fuel rail back on it tomorrow and drive it around a little to see if anything happens.

Anything else that could cause this?

testing the relay out of the car might give you false readings. it's easier to test it in the car and plugged in. when you turn the car to on you should hear the relay click and your fuel pump kick on. after about 2 seconds you will then hear the relay and pump click off. if at any point when turning the car on it doesn't do that, then you know the relay is failing intermittently.

The fuel pump will run for the 2 seconds every time the key is turned on. The pump, strainer and tank are all new as well as all new plugs and wires. I had previously tested the entire fuel system electronics and they were all in good working order.

I am really hoping the stock fuel rail cures this issue.

I will test the main relay electronically in the car as soon as i can get it to act up again.

well since you have it out, take a look at the solders and compare it to this page.

I have the exact same problem with my car not starting for 10mins after turning it off.
But recently its been chugging when I first start it up (cold) but fine after its warm.
But now it rotates but wont start. I have a check engine light, oil light, and battery light on when I turn the key into the first position.
The alternator was just changed and so was the battery a couple months ago. After reading through the forums I began to believe it
was the main relay so I replaced it with a brand new one but it still wont start. I'm not sure what to do now.. fuel pump?
btw its a CRX SI 90 it has 302,000 km on it

Alright i think i got this figured out... and it was something stupid like i thought.

Turns out STR doesn't drill out the hole for the return line on their fuel rails. So i was running with no fuel return at all which would explain my issues. I also re-soldered mt main relay. I will get to test it out tonight!
