does any one know how to test them or to tell if they are deffective

 

With the car running unplug them one by one, if the engine starts missing you know that one is good. Coil packs work or don't, there is no in between. But since you have a 2000 if the car is running you can assume the coil is good. lol

And there are no coil packs on a 2000 si.

 

maybe its for a friend of his, or he has a car with coil packs that isnt added to his garage here on h-t.

 

you need to find the resistance specs and measure them with a ohmmeter to see if they within specified range.

 

Is it throwing any miss fire codes?

If so, clear the codes.

Then take the coil from the cylinder that the code indicates and move it to another cylinder.

Test drive the car and if the code follows the coil then the coil is the problem
