ok i have an issue with my obd2 to obd1 gsr swap into my 93 civic hatch... i pulled the motor out of a clean gsr hit in front.... bumper was clean/no smoke. i changed the ecu to a p72 obd1. car smokes like crazy at high rpms. bumper is always dirty.it was a craigslist buy and im new at the honda game.. my vtec engages 1st gear @5k 2nd @ 5k 3rd@4500 and i gotta check 4th again. does this mean it was chipped? the ecu came out of an accord and i dont know what his setup was ..didnt care bc he told me it was factory. can this be the reason why the car is running like ****?

 

If the ecu is chipped you really have no idea what is in there running the car.

If it was a factory ECU it should run the car.. well like factory.

Take the lid off and see if the ecu is chipped, that would be my first step.
