Default exhaust question. why do some systems say they wont fit gsr?

im new to hondas for the most part. im used to subarus where something from an impreza typically fits a legacy with no modification. im looking at catbacks and some say that they will fit 2 door integra gs/ls but WILL NOT fit gsr/type r. what is the differences in length or hanger location that make it not fit?

the ls/rs/gs cat flange is horizontal and the gsr cat flange is diagonal. it always helps to get underneath the car and double check what one you need.

but the cat flange that attaches to a cat back is a 3 bolt. how do you determine what is horizontal and what's diagonal

Good diagram. BTW, for the n00b - B18C5 is the Type R engine, B18C1 is the GS-R, and B18B1 is the LS/GS/RS.

Yeah the diagram says it all, the 94-99 B18C1 [GS-R] A-pipe was made shorter than every other 94-99 A-pipe (2nd piece of header assembly, bolts up to cat.) Not exactly sure why they did this, it looks to me that they had a different design from the other models regarding O2 sensors just judging from the diagram. Your guess is as good as mine.

right you are my friend. your probably looking on ebay for your exhaust. bad idea. most exhaust shops should be able to make you a decent exhaust. just about every one around here has a mandrel bender. just ask around. the 2 bolt flange is on the header or "in" side of the cat. the 3 bolt is the "out" side of the cat.

i may be a noob to hondas but im not a noob to cars. nobody around here has a mandrel. k i lied. there is one person in my area has a mandrel bender but the best he can do is supply the bends if i want them but he wont bend anything but mild. dont ask me why. hes a nice guy and has hooked me up alot but thats not his money maker.

but my question now is. what is your or honda-tech's beef with ebay cat backs. i havent seen any concrete evedience that they are bad

My brother has one of those ebay catbacks. For the most part they look the same and install the same. I think the difference comes down to the sound. They just don't sound as good as some of the nicer catback systems. I would only get one if you're gonna get a hell of a deal. My bro copped for like $125 shipped. That said, on a 94-97 GS-R is there a difference of pipe length (after cat) between the 2 door and 4 door?

i wouldnt say beef. ive bought stuff off ebay. you can find good name brand parts on there. just be careful what you buy. usally the no-name junk is what you want to look out for. like on a exhaust system, it may look good when you get it. but over time the welds start cracking, or hangers are breaking off. im not trying to tell you what to buy and what not to buy. the best way to put it is you pay for what you get.

your wish is my command, lol. just got this today from ups. Altogether for the whole exhaust, the test pipe it was around 200$. shipped. Its all t304 stainless steel, 2.5 test pipe back. here it is. I ll do a review when i put it on when school starts.
please keep in mind, i have a DB8, and the choices i have for full cat back exhaust are limited. This is APEXI N1 REPLICA,from speed daddy motoring on ebay. Very good experience them as a seller.I ll let you know how there product is.

yeah there isn't a huge problem buying ebay parts, the only gripe i personally have with purchasing high dollar items from ebay is that there is no way to be sure the part was manufactured well. With those off-brand systems the quality can sort of be on the poor side, which is why you pay less for it. In my honest opinion you get what you pay for.. especially in the automotive game.

and.. paypal can be super gay sometimes

stainless steel is stainless steel, its mandrel bent, welds are nice, actually the welds are gorgeous. If i can basically get something cheaper, thats off brand and still of solid construction then i will. I am not really into paying for a name. Plus its just an exhaust, lol, if we were talking chepo ebay valve springs or something like that, i would understand.

but i will let everyone know. If it sucks i'll just save up and buy a g reddy or a real apexi, although they are like 800 dollars. lol

well when i do my brothers DA build, if i buy it for him, its pretty much gonna be an ebay build. for what i can afford, and decnt quality and sellers.

my friend has a knock off set of black housing headlights for his prelude, off ebay and they look amazing perform well.

I am gonna prolly buy a set of headers, fidanza 7lb flywheel, exedy oem clutch, test pipe. black housing headlights, and a abs plastic lib for my brothers car all off ebay. It will work for a while at least. lol

imo,all fart can's sound the same, ebay or not.
sound is dependant on the piping size,cat/testpipe, resonator or not.etc etc.
ebay exhaust fitment however is slightly sloppy but doesnt take much to clean up
I had to re-do my exhaust in the back section because it would rest on the gas tank, but now its all G,cant complain for the price.
and im sorry but that is nowhere near a apex n1 replica.
the face of the tip looks rounded, and that burnt tip doesnt look like a greddy tic thats for sure. You can find nicer ones on ebay if you look hard and ask questions, just takes patients, and to solve the length between gsr,ls etc.you should buy that 4 way adjustable test pipe on ebay, problem solved.
here my ebay special exhaust, the best no name one i could find, and its 3".

you are correct the material may be the same, however the manufacturing processes vary greatly from each part manufacturer. and i was more referring to high dollar items from ebay not solely exhaust components so i agree with you, exhausts arent really the problem but the more crucial engine components should be bought from more trustworthy and reliable suppliers
