Default help with diagnosis: 1995 Accord 4cyl vtec/auto trans

Driving away this morning I had a problem. here were the symptoms as they occurred:
  1. loss of power - engine sputtering.
  2. tach/speedo bouncing from 0 to appropriate level then dead
  3. dash lights dimmed
  4. D4 on dash beagan to blink (gear)
I stopped, turned off the ignition and restarted the vehicle and it has been fine since.

Ignitor in the distributor? Ignition switch? Trans?

vehicle has 153,000miles and it was cold (30 F)...that cold in Texas.

Any help is appreciated,

PS

sounds like a wiring issue, perhaps a ground

I thought the same. checked the main ground and the wires going to the distributor when i got to work. guess i need to get the wiring diagram and start tracing grounds for the distibutor and ignition.

check the ignition. i know the 98-02 had problems with the ignitions. if it does that again jiggle the key around while its still running and see if anything happens.

going to be the ignition switch...if you hold it on it will remain running..let go and it dies. I guess there is an electronic component attached to the mechanical assembly thats fails. Thanks for the help.
