hey guys, i find that my brakes are really squeaky in the mornings, and i think this is an indication to change the brakes....however, the mileage on the car is onli about 20 k ...so i decided to google about the car's brakes and found that the rear brakes are a major prblem with the 2008/2009 honda accord as they have a tendency to need a replacement every 18 - 25 k miles...i dont really want to be changing my brakes every year so i was wondering if any1 was aware of any aftermarket rear brakes for the 2008 honda accord..the onli one i found so far was auto zone ceramic brakes... if yu guys cud recomend any other 1's i would really apreciate it ..thanks in advance

First off, your research is faulty... there is nothing wrong with any of the brake systems on any Honda. Just because you read uneducated Hyperbole on the net about non technical mechanical diagnosis doesn't make it truth.

what you have read is that the pad material wears out faster than SOME folks like, that doesn't make the system faulty... that makes the system aggressive.

You may be able get a harder compound by using aftermarket pads, but remember you will loose braking performance... brake performance is a compromise between the rate at which you use this consumable and the rate at which the system can perform.

Honda has and has had a new pad and spring assembly for the Accord(and other models) that is a retro fit to the original Pad... go see your dealer to get the update. It will more than likely be what you and 700-800 other folks are looking for

 

How recently did Honda release their new brake pads? Are they a great improvement on Autozone brakes?

 

hey mschu...to make sure we r on the same page for this new set of brakes...is the part number 43022-TA0-A51??? if u can confirm that it wud b great... also.. how effective are these compared to the old set?

 

Its to early to know for sure how these new pads will affect brake performance and service life .

rear pads go out that early? that's pathetic. might as well convert back to drums.

 

your kidding right .
Drum brakes = 0 performance ,thats why they last 100k ,self-adjusters never work right.

The Accord rears can get up to 30k on them, but some experiance shorter life .
Some reason why short life

1) rotors and pads are soft material .
2)EBD assist (anti-dive )
3)ABS and VSA systems
4) good braking performance with light pedal pressure .

Most all are caused by safety reasons to improve ,with exception of maybe rotor material which probably could be better but with increased cost , same with rear caliper types using floating with built in hand brake but this is the industry norm .

 

Ceramic pads may last longer but at the expense of eating up your rotors quicker...

Stay with OEM

 

My 2008 accord wore the rear pads out at 18,000 miles. According to a honda mechanic normal rear pad life on the 2008 accord is 15,000 miles.

 

how much difference does converting from drum to disc as far as performance goes?

 

Thats a hard question to answer as it depends on the vehicle and weight distribution % front to rear . It will be better for sure .

Do you remember the difference when fronts went from drum to disc ?
That was huge improvement in fade and wet weather, the rear would be not as big as its in the rear .

 

i thought most people converted their rear drums in their civics because of aesthetics. i didnt know.

 

I just installed my 1st set of updated pads yesterday.

I'm the installer. Not owner .
But IMPO the updated pads should solve the problem.

 

I am sure there are many that do upgrades like rear disc conversions or Big brake kits for looks . But fact is they can improve braking performance if done right (size/pads) .

 

Interesting. My parents have a '06 V6 sedan and they had to replace the rear pads at around 40k I think and they both drive like Grandpa's.

If it's of any consequence I had to replace the rear pads on my '06 F-150 at 40k too. There was no pad left but I was doing some heavy towing as well as DD.

 

honda has updated both front and rear pads as well as released a bulletin (that your car must fall under) front the front pads that also comes with reatining springs/clips...the bulletin includes new front pads with springs/clips and resurfacing front rotors which is for a judder and or squeaking in the front only...

as far at the rear honda provides pads with clip/spring also but only goes on the bottom of the pad when mounted to prevent uneven wear...there is no bulletin for the rears..

go to honda, let them see if your vehicle falls into the bulletin..

 

Honda released both parts today to the dealers. I know at our dealership it is weird if they will warranty the brakes or not.

The orginal # on rear were 43022-TA0-A00

 

No. 43022-TA0-A51 is the supersession from the A00 part number

The A60 is a brand new part

 

I wonder if these can do with the Honda Accord that I had... and if these had a warranty of not.
