“The ED7 Daily Driver Engine Revival”
Intro: I bought my current daily driver as a short term car. The “Evil Twin” as it’s been named has stayed with me longer than I originally thought it would. As it turns out an engine with a lot of miles eventually wears out regardless of maintenance.
During my build thread “01-0041's ED7 Rebuild - USDM to US/JDM Dribble…” I started posting pictures of the engine I’m working on. For some crazy reason people were interested even though it’s not going to be anything special.
So, I thought I’d post the progress of yet another project I’m working on amongst all the other personal and work related projects.
Here are a couple shots of the car before my camera battery decided it was going to die.

I spent Saturday cleaning the interior of the car after spending a few hours at work cleaning.
FUN! ;-)
I’ll start posting pictures of the engine when I have more time.

Not much of an update, but here are a few pictures I took a couple of months ago. I’m reposting them here for the sake of a semi accurate thread line.
This is the original head from my white ’90 - as delivered from the factory.
Modifications:
- Milled
- Ported and polished
- Mild port match

Valve train cleaned and ready for install… Too bad I need to buy a camshaft.

This is one of my favorite parts of the engine.

Performance Coatings: titanium ceramic finish.
Clean and freshly rebuilt intake manifold…

Refreshed crankshaft…

Second update this evening…
I have a bunch of pictures so I thought I’d throw a few more in the mix.
My block spent some time at the machine shop getting:
- soaked
- glass beaded
- honed
- decked
- cleaned

Unfortunately after inspecting the cylinder walls - I told the machine shop I would inspect the block when I had time - I need to take it back and have it over bored to the next size. My budget rebuild is going to get expensive. ;-)
I think I’m going to go with .50 over since they aren’t that expensive. Once that’s dealt with I’ll work on bearings.
I’d show my pistons and rods, but now that I’m changing pistons I’ll wait for the new goodness. :-)

a sohc vtec intake manifold (y8, z6) would add a bit more jam to that engine for a low price. Cheap, easy horsepower... even if its just a couple.
parts are looking great.

You have a white and a black civic? My two favorite colors for a civic and I cant find a single one in my area
. Im stuck with a teal EF.

I'm really not looking for power with this engine. Most of the work was done long before I bought my white '90. So, a lot of the work is just restoring the engine to its previous - timing belt incident - condition.
I actually have three Civic Si's.
- ’94 White; track car purchased new in ‘93
- ’90 White; bought from a friend
- ’90 Black; bought as a temp DD - turned permanent DD
