Master cylinder question
I have a 99 dx with a 5 lug swap. I believe that there is still at stock 13/16ths master cylinder with a 40/40 proportioning valve (correct me if i am wrong). My brake pedal is really soft and it takes a while for the brakes to actually engage. I have already bleed the lines 3 different times so I am pretty sure there is no air in there. Would upgrading to a 15/16ths or 1" MC help? Also, will any of them be a direct bolt on to the stock booster, besides bending the lines to match up. Thanks
Changing the master size won't solve your problem. From what you describe, you probably have a damaged master, or air in the lines. Also possible that you've glazed the pads, but that is unlikely.
Has anything at all been done to the brakes since the system was last working properly? (i.e. replaced caliper, replaced lines, changed booster, etc...)

nothing is different that i know of. I suppose it is possible there is still air in the lines but i did bleed them a few times so i was hoping if there was any air it would be out by now. still possible to have some in there i suppose. But wouldn't a lager mc push more fluid to the calipers, thus reducing the pedal travel?
Grassroots Motorsports did a very good write-up about a year ago about why upgrading the master cylinder is a common and *BAD* upgrade for most cars. Realize that going from a 13/16" to a 1" master cylinder increases piston size by 51.5%. So you just cut pedal travel by 1/3rd and are much more likely to lock them up...
The reason I would advise against just slapping a bigger mc on the car is because your brake system is currently *BROKEN* and you have not identified *WHAT* is broken.
Yes, there are mc's that will bolt up. No, there are not any that will work properly with your dx booster. I went down this path when I upgraded to itr brakes & 1" mc on my 98ex. If you use the 98-01 1" integra mc, you need its booster as well. And I wouldn't recommend that combo while still on the stock dx calipers.
