not necessarily. nobody likes a loud fart can haging off a honda just making obscene noises. something that has a real tone and is toned down is the fan favorite, i guarantee it.

Ricey IMO is doing things to your car that make it look/sound nice, with little regard for actual performance gain.

I know it is the fan favorite...but most fans are ricey.

Why not care about performance and dont care about how it sounds?
You think race teams think "hmm, what will make our car sound cool"... prolly not

where i live loud fartcan that dont got a nice pitch sound to them is consider P.O.S rice

depends your kind of crowd

where i live its all about performance, the other city within the state of SD is the opposite, they go for ricey, like if theirs ricey in my town it gets made fun off, up in the other town, if you have a performance sleeper car, its made fun off cause it dont look nice to them

so your saying good HP gains cant be made from nice sounding systems? the apexi WS2 is the most popular run exhaust system on the market, not only because it sounds good (deep tone and quiet) but it also shows the best all around gains in HP and TQ curve.

Read the OP. He said he wants the best sound bar none...
Where did he say anything about performance?

I guess I just thought it was a contradiction when he said he doesnt want anything ricey, but wanted the best sounding.

When you said no one wants a fart can hanging off their car - you are forgetting the people that mod their cars for performance... The sound a car makes is just a byproduct of what performance (or pseudo performance) parts you have on it.

OP - straight pipe that bitch

ok... a straight pipe wont get the best sound like he asked... nor will it give the best performance.

OP- i recommend the apexi WS2, Greddy SP2, or RS*R EX mag cat-back systems if you are looking for the best sound. Those three are all quiet with a deep tone and come alive when your really on it. They wont get you all the attention when your going 35mph and it sounds like 80mph like say a N1 style can will. One thing people always forget is low displacement NA car need back pressure to create torque and HP. you will not get peak power like an open header, but you will have better power over the whole RPM range. Just my experience with the stuff, been down both roads.

You NEVER want back pressure. Back pressure prevents scavenging, scavenging sucks exhaust gases out and allows a fresh incoming charge.

3in is too large for NA...unless you have a giant motor, like an H23 or J series. For turbo, it's different, the bigger the better. For NA 1.8 liters, I believe you want 2.25-2.5

The Apexi WS2 sounds great. I'm sure there has to be others, but the WS2 sounds good for sure. It will be too restrictive with boost I think...maybe.
