has anybody failed smog and put in two cat converter to pass smog? i belive the cat catches all the excess HC and CO2 so that it will produce less pollution out of tail pipe so if i was to add another cat(any) would i be able to reduce the emissions and pass a smog test.
what about visual?do they check? i dont think they will even know. but will this set a CEL
just wondering if anybody was interested in what i was thinking

 

if your cat is bad you wont pass emissions. i doubt having 2 would help. lol

 

mine failed emissions. It was like 5 times above for HCO and c02. I cut a vacuum hose from the intake manifold and put an elbow and drilled a small hole in it to put in more air. It drove kinda funny but i passed emissions w/o a cat.

 

co2 is your efficiency so i dont get what your stating?? Worries include HC,CO,O2, and NOX

yup, seafoam works. i havent done it befor emissions but i do notice a cleaner burn and smoothe idle.. i would recommened removing ur cat first so u dont clog it up

 

so how long does the white smoke take until it clears off?

 

about twenty to thirty minutes depending on carbon build up

 

man my HC was high
first was 350 then they told me to adjust the spark plugs gap
then it went 450 and then they told me to add some lucas fuel injector cleaner
then it ****en went up and down but still high though
i didnt pass a idle but i pass at 2500rpm

 

try just replacing the cat

 

do you have to pass an underhood visual inspection?

 

when i put in the swap theres no cat so i went to autozone and bought me a $250 CA smog legal one

doesnt all smog have an underhood visual but i dont think theyll jack up my car and check

 

In CA, they do underhood visual, and depending on some of the test-only shops, they may use a mirror on an extension to check under the car. One place i went to, used the mirror.

 

the place i went to actually looked underneath the car to make sure i had a cat...but OP what motor do you have?
