does it constantly spit white smoke, or does it go away after you start up?

my del sol, in the freezing cold, with the heat on 100%, my engine never reads past its lowest point, second I turn off the heat it starts to say the motor is warming up. it all depends though.....

could be a improper head gasket (on wrong) causing you to burn your rad fluid. check your rad, is it low? its easy to tell....

Well mine wasn't spitting white smoke but my temp gauge was always low and not going up right... Ended up I didn't even have a thermostat.

Ya I was thinking thermostat too...used to have a 98 Neon rt and the thermo was stuck in the "open" position..engine never had a chance to get to operating temperature until the car stops and the air flow stops..(I lived in Maine, and when its 10 degrees out, you fix the heat EFFEN quick lol) and if the head gasket is bad, the spring inside the thermostat could be gunked up from oily coolant, stopping the plate's ability to close (thus stopping coolant flow to pass. compartment)
