ok, so every onces in a while, the lcheck engine light will come on, but when i restart the car, it goes off. so today i take out my 88 DX REX today, and i'm driving it somewhat hard(shifting around 5500). So, as i shift into 3rd, at around 45-50MPH, my check engine light pops, on, and two seconds later, she dies. So as i'm coasting along, shitting my pants, i cant get it started. finally i come to a stop, and it takes me over 20 tries to get it started. It cranks over fine, but it just wont fire, i tried giving it gas, pumping the gas, everything i knew how to. So I get it started, fearing for my life that i would be rear ended, and i drive to my house, 1/2 mile away, and the light doesnt come on again. Any ideas what it could be, or what i should check? any ideas would be great

you need to check the ECU for what code it's throwing.
Lift the carpet under the dash on the passenger side.
put the key on the ignition and turn it to ON, but don't crank the engine.
then count how many times the red LED blinks. Short blinks count as one.
Long blinks count as ten.
Go do that and tell us hat you found.
