Default 2004 Honda Civic Gas Guzzler?

So, I just purchased an 04 Honda Civic. Automatic. 2 dr. LX Coupe. And, I couldn't help, but notice as I was driving around running some errands. Like going to get my new nav system installed that my gas meter was reading kind of low. Its not a very powerful car, and I havn't done anything to the 4 cylinder engine. Why am I burning so much gas?

The reason I purchased this vechicle is cause everyone brags about the quality, and mpg. Frankly, I'm disappointed.. .

I have an 04 civic auto 2dr lx as well. I average 28-30mpg... no engine mods. just k&n air filter, 215/50/r16 tires, and light wheels. This is also mostly city driving. maybe only 1/3 of my tank is highway.

Thanks guys. I don't know. I'm moving to Cali. I'm at 99, but I'm thinking I'll get the 110,000 mile service done early to atleast knock off $3-400 off the price plus an oil change.

oil,air filter, plugs, check tire pressure maybe try a fuel system cleaner, use the lowest octane fuel you can get and you should be good.
