Icon2 F20B In Del sol

I was thinking of next year putting a F20B DOHC VTEC into my 93 del sol chassis, but i have never ran into anyone that has done this swap. Ive heard some say that F series are hard to put in and make work in any civic or Del sol Chassis. Has anyone ever done this swap. I can imagine the electrical mods are gonna be worse than the mechanical ones. The engine is from a 97-01 Accord and the tranny is also

Isn't it very similar to an H22?

I hope not. Ive heard alot of people saying the H22 is too heavy for the front end of EG or EK chassis. Something about it kills u in cornering or some **** like that.

There are plenty of people who have done this. Read in the Hybrid forum, they have all the info you need.

And the weight issue is not a problem at all.

what ecu did you use for this swap? A chipped P28? Or did you use the F20B ecu?

It is very similar to swapping in an H22, I will caution you however that aftermarket parts are few and far between for the F20B although certain H22 parts do fit. As for the weight difference, it is moot and doesn't need to be worried about.

all internals for the head are compatible with h22 performance parts, all you need is a nice set of cams, some nice springs, and a 75 shot and your ****in GOLDEN!... those are my plans

Damn WOW. did u have to get a aftermarket engine mount kit? I have been on hasport's site and they dont even make a engine mount kit for F20B in 93 del sol chassis. But if the H22 kit will work ill roll with that. WHen i converted this same del sol from an automatic to a stick, it had a crappy D15B7 non vtec in it. I put in a D16Z6 in and had to alter the upper tranny mount.

Everyone does B and H series swaps, wanted to do something a little different than most. No NOS though, too much of a headache and im not racing this car. Maybe a little illegal **** with some jagoff in a mustang mext to me up to the next red light. Not tryin to get impounded and fined lol. Probably will turbo it, mildly of course, just to say i did it.

The mounts are the same as doing an H22 swap, the two engines are very similar when it comes to the aspect of doing the swap, the differences basically come in the form of engine internals

Excellent. The motor im looking at getting is a JDM version. How do you go about getting JDm motors emissions compliant? Ive read that any JDM motor is slightly different than its american counterpart. As in its internals. Was wondering if anything different is needed other than just the common vacuum lines that need to be added or re-routed

Your car is pre OBD2 so emissions arent needed. I have a OBD1 JDM H22a in my OBDI Prelude. Obviously I got to use my stock mounts, but the swap is very straight forward. You'll need an H2B transmission kit, the H/F series motor mounts, and an ECU (P-13 is the JDM H22) you could use a GSR also as they have the same butterfly valve nonsense.

I had a friend with an OBD2 H22 (type S) and he had no real trouble.

What is an H2B tranny kit? Im a complete dum *** when it comes to swapping lol. But im brave, and probably foolish enough to try them on my own.

What all are my options as far as trannys? The engine is from a 97-01 accord, not sure which exact year. The cheapest option i had available to me is a Tranny from a 92-95 accord. Will that tranny fit the engine? Or even an H series tranny?

haha i am not that lucky to have friends who are into working on cars. The only one i have who is, is very unreliable. I seem to be becoming very good at doing jobs in which everyone says "thats not a one person job" not just on working on cars but other stuff too. In doing this auto to manual conversion i had to do everything on my own. I cant tell you how much a pain in the *** it is trying to get lower tranny bolts started, trying to rock the engine into place with one arm, in a very awkward position lol. Once i have all the technical info i can do this swap too, just might take me a month or 2 to finish.

A kit, mounts are an option, that includes an adapter to mate the B-series transmission to an H or F series block (excluding the S2000 F series motors). The F20B will only be a Japanese version, there is no USDM equivalent.
