im having a difficult time getting the c clip on the end of the countershaft to seat back in the housing. ive tried lightly dropping it on some wood on the ground, persuasion with a rubber mallot and shaking the tranny. this is on a 92 ls cable trans. what trick am i missing, i need to get this thing sealed up and swapped in
Did you damage the c-clip? Did you tighten the case down too before you tried seating it, causing it to not budge due to pressure from the case?

the clip isnt damaged. its brand new and each time i try and get it to seat and it doesnt i take the case back off and check it to make sure its not bent.
ive tried it with the case loose and bolted up but not torqued. ill go back and try and it with the case loose again

Pull the case off and reseal it (torque the bolts when you put the case on). Pry the CS nut up with a screw driver if lightly dropping the case doesn't work. Don't pry too hard or you will have to replace the case.
open up the c-clip, put a little pressure on the clip from tighting up the outter case so that the c-clips stays open, now tilt the tranny so that the countershaft will fall towards the c-clip and it should clip up once the groove on the countershaft bearing meets the c-clip!
make sure you dont have any components in up side down, i know it sounds dumb but i think one of the hubs can be installed upside down and cause the top bearing to sit to high and the case wont come down.
