CRX engine change
My son has a 89 crx with a D15b2 engine with auto trans and a hole in the block. I need to find a new engine and have a few questions. What do they mean when they ask if it has a 22 or 24 MM front? will a 92 to 95 D15 engine work? this is the engine and I need to know if it will work..

you could use that engine, but since it is a dual carb engine, you would need to swap the intake manifold and distributor from the B2 onto it - you would need to swap the driver's side engine mount from the B2 onto it - you would need to cut off the connector for the cooling fan switch, which is on the thermostat housing on the 92-95, and splice it onto your B2 engine harness - the cooling fan switch is on the back of the B2 block next to the oil filter - you would need to make a block-off plate to bolt to the head to cover the hole where the mechanical fuel pump for the carbed engine was located
You seem to know alot about this. Have you done this change? I just need to know that it will bolt up to a auto trans. And what do they mean when they ask about the 22 or 24 mm snout? I really have to be sure it will work because I can't return it if it don't work.
Thanks

what they are talking about for the front snout is the part of the crankshaft that the crank pulley goes on - some are 22mm diameter and some are 24mm diameter - shouldn't make any difference if you use the pulley that comes on the 92-95 engine along with the 92-95 alternator - 88-91 use a 3-rib alternator belt and 92-95 use a 4-rib alternator belt

92-95 d series motors are obd 1. you will have to convert it since this crx is currently an obd0. youll need another ecu to run the newer engine.

what? dual carb?? dual point fuel injection you mean....a d15b2 isnt carburated dood...no mechanical fuel pump.
its the same replacement motor but with different emission controls...same concept as a carbed zc sohc and a mpfi zc sohc which is similar to a d16a6...!!!
No... Convert the motor to OBD-0... (use all of the old sensors, manifold setup, brackets, mounts, distributor... Ect, ect...) Then you will have no problems. This typeof swap is the easiest you can do. There is nothing to it.
Thanks. This was my plan. just got a little confused from the other post.
well we got the engine installed today. we had a few surprizes but nothing major.the twin carb head had two less studs than the F/I head. the holes were drilled and taped so I just had to take two studs out of the old head and install in the new head. The temp switch is in a differnt place but the newer block has a screw in plug where the older model had the switch. all I had to do was remove the plug and install the switch so there was no need the cut the wires.the newer alternator will not plug into the older model plug.1 has 3 wires and the other has 4 wires so we just used the older alternator with the 3 groove belt on the 4 groove crank pulley. eveything else worked out fine.. Thanks for the help guys.
