I'm getting closer to repair my 94 civic ( blown tranny) and I see a lot JDM imported trannys from Japan. Most of them is advertised with extremaly low millage. How is this possible ????
I'm just getting to civic world and need some help.

Seriously? D15B trans = D16Z6 trans. They're the same thing made in the same place. You know how often the fluids are changed in "low mileage" JDM trannys before they get pulled from the car?

I will often times get used transmissions from hmotors when customers bring me unusable, virtually destroyed ones. I have opened up a couple to install lsd's and they have all been great with very little wear on the parts.

As have I. HMO is the only place I've received good "low mileage" trannys from, though I have received some with worn parts in them (i.e. bearings from fluid not being changed and gears/shafts with wear). Others I've got from another importer or private party almost always have issues.

Yeah its hard to find mint used gearboxes. I have gotten ones that were full of water from import yards power washing the trannys, pitting and ruining the bearings inside. Whenever somebody bring in a "honda-tech" tranny or one sold from a local ricer it always seems to be bad news. Cases that are sealed with blue or orange silicone throw up red flags and are likely to need repair or were improperly assembled. They are getting older and harder to find.

haha...I hate that. If you're not going to run HB or the newer trans sealant Honda has, at least use RTV grey! Who uses this blue crap.....every car I work on with blue sealant is just gross

I recently assembled a trans, with very clean mating surfaces, using no sealant whatsoever, just to test on my lathe. I filled it with ATF and solvent(for cooling) and ran it for a few hours on the lathe at 800 RPM, with no load, then let it set for a few days. It didn't leak one drop. I don't think it takes much to seal these if the case halves are really clean with no burrs. Every one I have seen so far, has way to much sealant on it. I think I could make a tube of that HB last about 500 trannys.

They need sealant. Constant temp changes and vibration.

And again (haven't told you in almost two months) stop putting ATF in them.

Hot glue ?

I got one that someone overtightened the plug for the countershaft snap ring and cracked the case there, so they epoxyed the plug and the whole corner area. I hate when idiots ruin things like good trans cases and engine blocks.

All the trannies we've recieved from hmotors have been mint internally, always been happy with them.

I got a tranny in once that was sealed up with red locktite, every single bolt and the mating surfaces!

I get a lot of those. Then they complain when I tell them how much it will be to fix it.
