Honda MTF Flush and Clunking
Car had about 100,000 miles when bought and i put on 30,000. So when I blew my motor last week I replace it but also it was time for a new flywheel fidanza 9.5 pounder and exedy oem replacement clutch kit with a tranny flush of honda MTF.
Got it all done and know it clunks pretty bad. I can be siting still push the cluch all the way in shift first to second and here clunking without the car rolling. Second to third the same. What the hell is this? Im not forcing at all just clunks.
I was thinking its to thin for my tranny? they fluid that came out seemed thicker but was pretty black but thought it was just from usage and my road racing events I participate in every 4 months.
Do i need good old engine oil 10-30 nonsynthetic because its an older tranny 98 integra?
Help a brother out?

Put some Torco MTF in it. You need to change the fluid more often as well. I change mine every other oil change or every other track event.
So I researched and read that good ole regular engine oil would help and also talking to some smart people in the industry... so I went down to Kragen and got Castrol GTX 10-30w.
As I drain the Honda MTF damn was that crap THIN... I put in the Castrol GTX and went for a test drive... immediate results...problem cured... No grinding at all.
So anyone reading this if you change to a thinner oil after using a thicker one its going to clunk. Parts have worn and need that thicker oil they are use to. I have no idea what was in there since i bought the car with 100,000 miles on but I know when I drained it was thicker than the stuff I put in, Honda MTF.
If you start out with MTF and use it for the life of tranny I think you will be ok....
Cheers,
John
