OEM Location Fuel Cell
Made a fuel cell for the oem location under the car. Nothing out on the market that satisfied me.
Here are some cell phone pics, thats all I had handy when I made it.
Presurize it to about 20psi, found a couple pin hole leaks, but nothing that could not be fixed.
Total weight of the tank with out the fuel pump or filter is 5lbs. Capacity of the tank is about 5.5 galons.
Stock tank weight is 32lbs dry. Thats a difference of 27lbs, if you are looking to cut weight.
All the parts cut, bent and ready to weld

Welding the bottom

Welding the top

Fuel pump bracket

Fuel pump and bracket

Front side with fuel filter and fuel pump.

Back side

Second one coming togheter allready

Update : 12/25/09 intank fuel pump weld on bracket is in works

I am wanting to build my own as well due to a custom application. You don't HAVE to baffle the inside with anything do you? Also what kind of aluminum and how thick did you use if you don't mind sharing. Thanks! looks awesome btw!
What kind of welder?
What kind of welder?

Looks really nice !
The only thing I would have done different was run the pickup line on the back side of the tank. If you baffled it correctly I guess you should be fine.
Good job

Looks great! I was tossing this idea around in my head for a while, so it's real nice to see a finished product like that, appreciate the pictures. Any baffle shots?
No baffle shots, I was too exited to finish it and didn't take any pics of the baffles.
Here is a pic of the oem sending unit mounting bracket on the top of the tank.

Dangit! lol. Next time get baffle pics as I have NO idea how to baffle one. And everytime I google search fuel cells and building one, all I get is stupid mpg and hydrogen cars etc!
And what welder are you using again? The welds look awesome! Is 1/8" too thick?
