Supposedly it stands for "Super Handling" which by many accounts is an accurate description of the SH model.

However, I've heard that the computer can't quite keep up with quick slaloming, and that 'good' drivers prefer the prelude without SH.

My friend, who is a VERY good driver, said that SH covers up the mistakes of the driver, preventing them from becoming a better driver.

haha..and GSR stand for geezer cuz its so old.

Anyway, whether people prefer it or not, the ATTS Prelude can lap a 1.5mile roadcourse ~2 seconds faster than a Prelude without...claimed by Honda Test Pilots.

I think a lot of people don't realize exactly how far you can push an SH, and not eat it. I doubt I have even seen how far it can be pushed, and I'm pretty brave with it.

Correct! Nothing. Its just a model line...like EX, LX, GT, etc. There has never been an official meaning to any of these terms. Only assumptions that they meant something.

I'm almost sure it stands for Super Handling. I read it in a Prelude review once. But I could be wrong.

stoopid215: Electron Blue Pearl.

pilotsi: SI has a meaning though. Sport Injection, back in the day when fuel injection was a big thing I guess Honda wanted to advertise it as much as it could on their performance models. As for SH, I read in a Type SH service manual specifically about the ATTS that Honda refers to this model as the Superior Handling model of the two, although they never clearly stated it. I guess we have to keep wondering

I think you maybe right. SI *may* have stood for Sport Injection at one point in time, but since it hasn't been stated in any offical documents as of late, I do not think Si stands for anything anymore...like on the Civic Si, I do not think it stands for anything. And if you have to go digging for old advertisements to find out what it means, then the designation (to me) means nothing! lol

Did that make any sense, lol?

The SH that you are inquiring about stands for special handling. It does however have a meaning just like SI. The SH model of the Prelude is not only more expensive, it is also heavier though it has the ATTS system. The system has more to do with traction than it does handling.(even though one is better with the other.) The system picks up the slack of one drive wheel when the other slips or loses traction for one reason or another. I am not sure about how the SH and base model line up track times, road course, and drag but the weight of the SH balances the two out from my experiences of driving them both regularly.

ATTS is not a traction control system. and it DOES have more to do with handling than it does traction. it only engages in turns, not going straight, as a traction control system would. i dont' know where you're picking up your information, or what your sources are, but i suggest you find it elsewhere. although the system does sense tire slippage, its main objective is to transfer torque to the outer wheel in a turn. and my friend, that's not how a traction control system operates last time i checked.

Why do people constantly make a big deal about the SH weighing more. Its 88lbs people! Thats nothing. You take a driver fed on sushi and vegies, stick him in the SH, and then take an driver fed on meat and potatoes and put him in the base and they both weigh the same. Given they are equally skilled, the SH would win, ESPECIALLY on the track where ATTS shines. Thats it

this is what i've researched and found them to be:

SH - Superior Handling (or Special Handling)
Si - Sport's Integrated (never heard of Sport Injection)
GT - Grand Touring (and no i didnt get that from Grand Tourismo)

Anyone think it's just a random set of letters that Honda picked to name their "nice" Prelude?

*raises hand*
