Stereo Install: Spare tire area with Fiberglass?
I've seen some pretty cool installs with sub/amp taking up the area where a spare tire usually goes. That is, they take out the spare, make a fiberglass mould and go to work mounting everything.
Does anyone know of a place that makes these? Or are all these custom jobs?

i wanted to do the same thing a month ago, so i went to Tweeter and got a quote. They told me it would be about $800, and that doesn't include the price of any speakers or anything
There was no way i was gonna pay that much, so i did it my self. it turned out even better, and i did it all for about $150. i recomend you do it your self, its not too hard. if you have any other questions u can hit me up w/an IM. AIM screen name= JDawg563

thats too bad, if you were anywhere near me my buddy and I would gladly make you one for cheap, i was planning on that but i am going boost at the monent, after everything is done on the turbo i will venture down that fiberglass route, i could make 2 molds and hook some people up with them! I have a JL 12W6 so I might be willing to do a 2nd or 3rd mold if anyone is interested ? (but it could be a while until i actually get around to it)
I have a 94 LS and I am into systems BIG TIME! I had the same thing done with the spare tire well. The job ran me 300 bucks. It's a pretty easy job with good companies. I had it done at the BOOMER McCloud in my town. That does NOT include the subs. I did 3 tens (Kicker Comp VR). It sounds nice and tight.
You can do this yourself... the only thing you REALLY nned to do is get the correct sub type and get the T-S parameters and calculate the correct intermnal enclosure volume for optimum sound quality (Trust me... and incorrectly sized enclosure for a particular sub will make a $200 speaker sound like a $50 speaker) Once you get the correct internal volume, build youe enclosure to match those parameters. Just keep in mind, you need to do the glass in multiple layers... sub woofers place a trememdous stress on their enclosures and too thin of a fiberglass wall will cause distortion in the enclosure, resulting in the 'box' producing sound of it's own.
Good luck
