Default Balance shaft problems

can somone explain what the balance shafts do and why they need to be timed a certain way?Last night i changed my timming belt on the f22 and i got curious n took off the gear on the rear balance shaft. When it came off i realized i had no way of telling how the gears were lines up so no im worried the timming on the balance shafts going to be off

You can leave the belt off if you want for the balance shafts, they smooth out the motor's movement. Some people use balance shaft eliminator kits to remove the rotating mass and others just take off the belt.

^^ what he said.

Reason why some ppl preferr to use the eliminator kit is to remove some weight by taking those balancer shafts out for good.
