taking out and changing an EK door locking mecanishm
Hey H-T, recently the locking mecanism on my EK door messed up and I need to change it. I tried taking it out, but its a bitch with all the metal wire bar things. Does any one know how to do this. I am probably thinking of getting a new one from Honda or should I just get another door? Any help is appreciated. Thank you
Its a lot easier to take the rods off of the back of the exterior door handle which are held on by retainer clips, be careful because they love to fly and are near impossible to find! You'll then need to remove the metal "shield" that prevents use of a slim jim and should be held on by 2 or 3 10mm bolts. The shield will still be held in place by the lock mechanism which is held in by a metal clip which should be visible through a slot in the shield. I use a scratch awl or a narrow shaft screw drivier and apply pressure/sliding the clip out of its groove, again, these like to fly too. After removing that clip you will be able to pull the shield and lock mechanism out and swap it, and of course, reverse order for installation. Good luck!
