Powergains: Apexi VAFC
I've been considering purchasing the Apexi VAFC and getting the car tuned, but have a few questions:
#1. What kind of power gains should I expect on an ITR with an AEM CAI, DC JDM4-1, Carsound Cat, and Apex N1 exhaust?
#2. I hear the car must be dyno tuned. What about tuning it with a gas-analyzer? #3. How do you dyno tune it anyway, and know where to set the VTEC engagement?
Thanks guys!

#1 - I hit 177whp with similar mods (stock b-pipe and can though) --> http://www.itr-nc.com/images/charlotte/patdyno.jpg
#2 - Not sure. Wideband O2 sensor + dyno is best
#3 - Check A/F ratios and power to add/remove fuel, and set VTEC point to "smooth" out the curve. See my plot above? Look at the difference in the curve of the graph with VTEC lowered a bit. After that, you couldn't feel VTEC, only hear it. That's what you want - smooth graphs

What year Type R do you have? What were you exact mods. I have AEM CAI, comptech 4-2-1 header and the mugen axel back. Did you only have I/H/E (just the axel back right) and get 177whp with a vfac fully tuned? Thanks!
Splat -- any idea what your whp was before the VAFC and tuning?
Setup:
2000 ITR #009
AEM CAI
JDM 4-1 header
2.5" Jeg's cat
STOCK exhaust (b-pipe flange modified to fit 2.5" cat, that's it)
you have a strong car. great numbers.
w/o a/f my car runs between 13/14 and ran 173.4/124.3 with just jdm 4-1, carsound, type one exhaust. now do you think i could extrapolate 5-8 whp with just a VAFC? maybe with intake i can produce similar numbers to yours...

*jots down VAFC on the long list of mods..*
1. AEM CAI
2. JDM header + cat
3. V-AFC
4. Cam gears
5. Toda B's
V-AFC is, in my opinion, essential once you get to intake and header stage

176hps 126 tq
mods were

Hell, I'd say do it before any other power mods.

Just a Q - why all the ignition stuff?
Can't recall what turbo it is - I think in the neighborhood of a T04. Had to add another cylinder. Total displacement is 2.3L now out of the I5.
adam get the vafc and take your car to clemons they have a wide bann O2 so you can see your A/F ratioit shows you how rich / lean at every rpm so you just bar up and down on the vafc at every rpm increment to get the perfect A/F ratio it isnt too hard give me a call sometime ill help you out
oh and get some skunk2 cam gears too
