I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the purpose of a top hat is on a coilover?? I'm about to purchase a GC and Koni package and i wasnt sure whether i should get the top hats also. if it matters they're going on a 88 crx that will be used as a dd/weekend track car.

 

the extended top hats with the Koni/GC package extend the mounting point of the shock upward about... 2" or something so that gives you a bit more strut travel back, works very good if you are going extremely low. But if you're just DD' you'll probably be fine using your OEM top hats.
