Default how to test coils

My friend has a honda prelude gen 5.

I don't really know much about Hondas so here was our conversation.

12:58am
Scott

i know how to test most coils

mine is a little different

i know i don't have spark coming out of the coil

and there is a factory connection going into my coil

it has three wires

yellow

black with yellow stripe

and green

i am trying to find out what i am looking for from those three wires and at what times

keep in mind...

i use to have a msd system and i converted it back to stock

i didn't put the msd system in so i want to make sure i am getting the signals or voltage that i am suppose to to the factory coil

i dont really know what he is talking about so any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you.

A quick check of the ignition system is easy. Backprobe the blue wire of the dist connector with an LED test light. Check for a "ground pulse" while cranking. If a ground pulse exists, and a no spark condition is present, the coil is most likely bad. If a ground pulse is not present, you most likely have a faulty ICM "igniter."
