Default Alternator removal...what's the trick?

The nightmare continues. I need to replace an alternator on a 1987 civic 1500 carburated car. Maybe I was just tired, but after disconnecting the wiring, and taking out the bolts and brackets, I just could not get it out. It seems like everything needs another 1/4 of an inch. If I try to take it out through the driver side, it hits on the frame on 2 sides. If I go on the other side of the oil filter, it won't get past the axle.???? any help would be very much appreciated.

well with no air compressor to run my fully stocked tool box. and after bending my 1/2" ratchet handle trying to get the axle nut off. The only possible solution was to break loose the ball joint then jack the suspension up and forward as far as it would go. I did get the new one in, but it was still tight. If my hand was only small enough to get the top bolt back in.

I'm pretty sure you gotta pull the axle. Seems standard affair for a Honda alternator.

No you dont pull any axels. Just put the car in the air on jackstands and take it out thru the bottom. It installs the oposite way. Its not that hard you just have to play with it to go in straight. 45 min job max...

you should be able to do it without pulling the axle, but if you can't, just pull the axle out of the hub. should give you enough clearance to shimmy it out..

There is a special place in Hell reserved for the bastard who designed the alternator and water pump placement on Hondas. As mentioned, the alternator comes out downward around the axle. No axles need to be pulled.
