Hey guys I have a buddy that wants to have a longer 5th and 6th gear. Does anyone know of anything that will accommodate this?

 

Why does he want that? Does he think that they cruise a to high or a RPM?

 

s2k is already accommodate with high rpm, y need longer gears? if trying to save gas buy a prius!

 

Not that that matters, but it's a fully built turbo car that goes on road trips at 120mph cruising..........

 

at a lower RPM he will be on the gas pedal more giving it gas. torque = better MPGs. I have a "fully" built turbo S2000 and I cruise at 4,000 all day long.

 

I think people want a longer 6th just because its annoying to cruise at high RPM.......I went on a road trip in a B16 hatch with a J1 tranny not that long ago and 80mph @ 4500rpm sucks for 4 hours lol

 

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Yeah, he just hates the soaring rpms and resonance on the highway. You can hardly hold a conversation doing 80 or 90 on the open road.

 

Try driving like that with a open 4 inch down pipe at 4,000 RPM. If you dont like **** like that, you are into the wrong life style, hobbie or what ever it is.

 

Does your friend have stock gears in the rear? You may be surprised to find out that if you shift a little higher in the RPM's (around 4200 as opposed to like 3400) you actually get better gas millage.

If he has an AP1 he could swap out the trans for an AP2. IIRC the AP2 trans has shorter first and second gears and taller fifth and sixth (as well as CF reinforced synchros). He will need the output flange from his AP1 transmission swapped onto the AP2.

 

AP2 tranny and a longer final drive will get the rpms down a bit and allow for a much higher top speed without hurting acceleration too much.
