GSR Ticking after instaling ITR replica cam
Recently i bought a brand new 00 spec ITR intake cam(same as CTR cam) localy and when i had it installed i had to put the dizzy all the way back to get the timing right... so i figured it was Chinese knock off... and my engine started ticking realy loud even tho i had the valve adjustment done when i instaled the cam... and tht day i had my friend over so he cud tune it... so we drove it out to do the street tune and first pull we did(pulled realy strong) it started tickin louder, then we did it again and it double thicking... and did it once more and it started triple thicking... so we said screw it and drove it bak
wat cud it be? lma's? valve hitting the piston?
its a 01 gsr with stock exhaust cam, gsr dual valve springs on exhaust installed and i have skunk2 mani and 4-1 headers, i just rebuild my motor 500 miles ago

your valve adjustment must be off did you do it with the motor dead cold and did you use a valve adjustment tool and did you set your timing correctly just score a line across the top of the dizzy and cam tower to line it back to the same spot again next time. did the motor run correctly with the oem cams if so you need a valve adjustment again or something was dropped in the head! or you improperly installed the cams!.
It sounds like he paid to have the work done. If your friend is savvy (or if you feel comfortable removing the valve cover), it's easy to take valve lash measurements. You might want to double check that they were adjusted properly.
yeh the motor ran fine with stock cams just it was runnin lean and since i had to tune it i decided might as well drop in some itr cams for more power... my friend did the valve adjustments and he didnt use the valve adjustment tool... im gona take off the valve cover today n check the valve clearances and most likely take off the chinesse itr cam... and put bak in stock gsr one... i started it today and it doesnt sound like its triple ticking like it did when i did hard pulls on it just single ticking when i had just started the motor like first time with the itr cam....

Are you sure you aren't off a tooth? That sounds more likely to be the problem versus the country of origin, considering pretty much every cam on the market is made in China.
no i just took the valve cover off n the cams r on the line... tho one of valve clearence is off... my bud did a **** job i need the right tools ehhh...
If you don't want to pay for official tools you can put two bends in a normal box wrench like this:

And that will reach in and let you tighten the nut while you hold the tappet with a small screwdriver. I used a 12 pt. wrench to make it easy to find the right position, and had a tool repair shop to make the bends. It was $10 for a new wrench + having it bent.

This is what I bought a few years ago.
Charge a couple friends $10 (or equivalent amount of food and beer) for a valve adjustment and it pays for itself.
I still think you are off a tooth if your distributor is cranked to achieve proper idle timing. Are you setting idle timing using the Helms method (jumping the service connector, etc)??

The stock cams have holes in them that can be used to help line them up at TDC. The holes line up with the a hole in Cam Holder plates.
You may want to make sure the cams are set correctly. Stock or adjustable cam gears?

like i said the cams are set on the line n its not of a tooth... and im not the first one with the fake itr cam tht had to put the dizzy all the way to the end...
i re adjustesd the timing belt... redid the valve clearances with the proper valve adjustment tool and now it doesnt tick.... i kept the itr cam... ill see how it runs when tuned...
