Tires
Hey Guys...Need some help deciding on new tires.
I have been disappointed with my Toyo Proxes 4s pretty much since the day I had them installed, so I am not looking to spend an arm and a leg on another poorly performing/wearing tire. They suck on dry roads, were noisy from the start, wore very quickly (although evenly) and they are downright dangerous in the rain and snow. I loved the way they looked on my car...that's about the only good thing I can say about them.
I've read all of the reviews on Tirerack and similar websites, but those reviews vary from car to car and on driving style.
I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about the tires you have/had on your Civics. Si owners in the Northeast that have driven through all weather conditions (snow, rain, ice, dry, etc) would be the most helpful, but all comments will be heard.
I want tires that are quiet, wear pretty well (don't need to get 100k out of them but more than 20k lol) and that provide confidence in all conditions. I don't want to spend a fortune so I am willing to make certain compromises.
Also, I admittedly know very little about tires/wheels. I love the way the way the stock 215/45R17s look on my car so I don't want a tire that looks like it belongs on a truck. That being said, if a slightly thicker tread will get me longer tread life, it could be considered.
Please help me out! Thanks in advance!

Read the FAQ at the top and compare to Tirerack. Keep in mind with Tirerack a lot of the people posting reviews may not have a lot of miles on the tires and/or are retards.
The biggest thing with tires however is you may want a "Winter" set of wheels with Winter tires. All Seasons can be lack luster in all seasons. But that's all discussed in that FAQ.
(I believe I'm getting Kumho ASX's for my S2K due to treadwear and performance/dollar)

i have the asx's on my si right now and had them on my gsr, i like them. they're pretty good in the dry (MUCH better than the stock all seasons) and not bad in the snow (took my gsr up to the local skiing resort quite a few times).
i swapped from the stock michelins to dunlop direzza sport z1 star spec and love them. they got an awesome review in a car and driver a while back, thats why i bought em. and they arent very expensive

I have had the Yokohama S Drives. I like them, but i now have the Advan Neova AD07s and they are amazing. Though I feel flex in the sidewall. Could be me though. But the Nitto NT05 arent that expensive so give those a try
Azenis is a poor choice for weather.
Kumho ECSTA ASX, as others have said, is a great and economical choice. I had them on my ITR, my SHO, and will buy them for wife's Accord V6 and my Si.

I am not providing a recommendation, but providing you some info on the tires I run. I am running Goodyear Eagle F1-GS D3. Not sure if they are all season, I doubt it but they do perform much better then the stock all seasons in the rain. I have not driven in the snow, so can't provide any info on how they perform in the snow (I assume where you are in Jersy, get's snow). As for wear, these tires have been good, even with all the tire spin I get when the tires are cold. Handling is awesome, better then anything I have driven on in the past. Tire noise is bad in my opintion, I have to run the stereo pretty loud to drown it out. I assume this is because they do not have a center line, but that is a guess.
All in all, I like them because the handling and wear, but like you, would like a quieter tire.
Good luck.

I think the problem you are going to have asking this question is what one person finds to be a good queit well wearing tire another is going to find to wear to quickly and be noisy. I loved the toyo proxy4s on my Si they were quite have worn well and have good bite never had problems with the grip in the rain in the snow they where down right unsafe but that was something that I expected when I looked at the tread. Plus I run a set of true winter tires. So your best bet is going to be to read up on what all the numbers on the sidewall of a tire mean, read the reviews and understand no matter what tire you buy it will be a compromise. I have always had good luck finding good tires on tirerack
*UPDATE* I bought some barely used Bridgestone Blizzaks off of an old man from Craigslist. These things are beasts in wet weather. They are loud as hell but the amazing traction in the snow and even rain more than make up for it.
haha. You'll fall in love with the blizzaks in the winter. I got some about 4 years ago and now I have to have them on every car in the winter.
Just curious, you say you want to get a tire that will give you more than 20k......30k is really good in my book so what do you think you should be getting? I think 20k is acceptable.
Sorry I can help you, I still have the oem's on my civic.
