My 92 Accord has a crack in the transmission case right above the boot on the end of the shifter cable. It looks like it was caused by something inside the transmission wearing a thin spot in the case and eventually causing it to crack. I patch it with JB Weld putty, but it doesn't hold very long. Has anyone else seen this problem? What kind of internal failure (bearings, bushings, shims?) could cause this?

I'm not sure either, but my guess would be time for a new transaxle.

Being at 360K+ on my 92, I too would like to see a pic so I might know what to keep a lookout for.

 

I patched it again today - the crack is more like a hole now. With the transmission in park there isn't anything like a gear or shaft close to the hole. I guess that changes when the car is moving in drive or reverse.

I'll post pics I took earlier as soon as I can find them.
