1/8th Mile Track Times. (just curious)
A year or so ago I bought an 88 CRX Si for 300 dollars from a body shop. It had front right damage. I put a new tire on it and lowered it and took it to the track. With the windows down sunroof open, and no front bumper, I ran a 9.61 on street tires. I then pulled it to the side and put slicks on it and ran a 9.27.
Again this is 1/8th mile times but that car seemed extremely quick for what it was. As far as mods, I did unbolt the rusty stock muffler and put a home made inake on it. thats it. Anyone else run 1/8th mile times like this? Maybe I can drive,

Uhh... that's on a stock motor?
If so, no hard feelings, but I call BS.
My brother's B16 pulls 9.5s or so, I pull 9.8's and I run 15.2-15.3 in the quarter. NO WAY is a stock engine going to pull that. More like 10.2's.

Ok, so Im obviously driving good and the car was as fast as I thought. Im not really worried if you think its BS or not. Im just looking for personal satisfaction. Anyone else out there have 1/8th mile times like this?
I have time slips. And, in fact, I just installed a stock engine in my new 88si and we were planning on going to the track if it dosent rain. Ill be sure to post vids/pics/time slips etc if we go.

I had a 88 CRX si with intake, exhuaust, no cat, no hood, stripped, no headlight, and I ran a 9.8 on street tires and a 9.5 on slicks. This is with a new clutch and a good night, NOT humid or anything. Ohh yeah it was a D16A too.
Since I have become a member of honda tech, untill now have I looked in this "drag racing" section. Im sorry, but I really think these times that Im seeing with motor swaps are horrible. i dont know what the deal is but theres definatly a problem. Im going to list my crx history for the last 3 years.
I dont know if anyone out there will vouch for me, but some cars just seem to haul ***. I have owned quite a few crx's and some are just faster than others. Check this out:
88 CRX Si, Cold air intake, Strait Pipe exhaust.
9.81 1/8th mile on Polished crome wheels / street tires.
89 CRX Si, JG Cam, JG ThrottleBody, Cam gear, Chikara header, custom intake , unbolted muffler.
10.3 1/8th mile.
88 CRX Si, ran like crap, smoked, never ran it at the track, blew it up, sold it.
88 CRX Si, (the one i got from the junk yard)
9.61 1/8th street tires
9.27 on slicks.
88 HF, never ran, sold
88 CRX Si, Gude head package, (header, cam, tb, p&p, ecu) FRP exhaust, JE 9.1:1 pistons, eagle rods, eagle rods, 100shot gas
9.0 1/8th street tires spiing like ****.
(but no excuses
)
And thats it. Ive owned alot of CRX's. I have absolutely no reason to lie. The last car is the one that I have currently have. I Spun a rod bearing and it ruined a rod so, in the process, I installed a factory engine from the junkyard for the mean time. And, I can honestly say that that engne runs exceptionally well. Im going to take it to the track thursday if it dosent rain and Ill be sure to get engine pics, and reciept for it if you guys want! lol I love the d16a. Sorry you guys wasted your money
(i drive for 10/hr)

Ok look at it this way: Eighth mile times usually give a good indication of quarter mile et's. Running a 9.6 in the eigth mile would usually indicate about a 14.9-15.2 second quarter mile et. This is not possible with a stock CRX D16A6. The best I could get my old engine to run was a 16.1 with H/E stripped rear, with a 10.1 eigth mile. I'm not trying to **** you off, I'm just stating facts.

Exactly! Thats why i was wondering what other ppl ran in the 1/8th. That car ran reallly well with the stock engine. What can I say. I got the time slips out of the closet. I always try to get the number 007. Heh. We had a car club once named 00Civic.
I was wrong on the time. i actually ran a 9.66 on street tires and a 9.26 on slicks.
Haha. BTW, my profile states that I live in NY. Which is not true. I actually live in Charlotte so if anyone here doubts me, feel free to meet up with me. In a friendly manner of course but, Honestly, I think its hillarious that the d16a6 pulls better times than the dohc's. I know im going to get shot down and bs'd because most ppl here have swaps. ( so it seems ) but, I know for a fact that I dont have the only sohc non vtec that hauls ***. Surly someone has one with some *****. If so speak up. Heh, untill friday.

Maybe your junkyard CRX had previous internal mods? I know there are some quick crx's stock but that time seems way too fast for stock internals.
I had a 89 crx si I bought bone stock with 220k miles from the original owner. Didn't do one mod not so much as a oil change and ran a 10.0 72mph. A month later I traded it for a EG hatch and the CRX's motor threw a rod through the block at 222k miles
We put my brothers old sohc vtec motor in the car and it ran slower. Maybe it gave all it had at the end of it's life.

88's are slightly lighter but i'm not sure by how much. I'm not doubting what you say cause i've heard of wierd things but never that wierd!
I ran my crx a few times after that but never got the times I did that first time because of the cool temp and good traction that night.

ED6 is a good friend of mine and I can back him up on the fact that his CRX ran 9.8's on streets and 9.5's on slicks. I witnessed this car beat dual cam swaps on the street and my 93 si fell victim to this STOCK single cam NON-VTEC in its original car. I wrecked my 93 and he bought the motor from me and swaped it into a 92 CX and ran dead even with a LS/DX (89) on the street. He ran the same times in this that he ran in the CRX so I believe that this guy probably is running that low of times in the 1/8 mile and that you guys are just pissed because you don't think that it is possible. Keep the single-cam power buddy and show some dual-cam what your **** is made of.
Do doubt.. and.. im dead serious.. wait untill friday. I will have the most detailed run of a stock crx running.. ****.. i know it will at least runa 9.7 by the way it feels.. youll see. Just wait untill friday. Ill have videos, pics, reciepts, etc, because when ppl on this board with 2000+ post doubt the d16a6, some one needs to step up. ppl thinking of doing a swap, wait untill friday and read this post. seriously.
I don't call bs because I had it called on me when my 88 si with just a intake and taking the ex. off ran a 15.19 in the 1/4th. I useually run 15.8 but then it ran that and then 15.28 back to back. So call bs but I know what mine ran.......

My best 1/8 mile run was a 7.62 but I normally run at the 1/4 mile track I run a 7.98-8.1. Later we found out that instead the track being 660' it was really 600'. There is 6 different 1/8 mile tracks with in 2 hours of here and 3 of them are short. One has even been measured at 573'. Have you always ran at teh same track? Go run at a good 1/4 track and see what you really run and see if your 1/8 time is the same.
Maybe the guy can drive? That is an idea. A friend of mine ran a 15.2 with a bone stock nothing done 99 SI, that is about .4 faster than I have ever seen. He can drive, maybe this guy can too.
We have 3 different tracks we go to: Mooreville, Pageland, and Shadyside. The nearest 1/4mile track is Rockhingham which is about 2.5 hours away. I would love to run 1/4 mile but its so damn far away. When I put my other engine back togather I will definatly go to teh 1/4 mile track.
