Default B18B3 redline at 8000, B18B1??

So I was looking at the specs of the B18B3 VS the B18B1.

The B18B3 has a redline of 8,000 rpm stock.
  • Displacement: 1834cc
  • Stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in)
  • Rod Length: 137.01 mm (5.394 in)
  • Rod/Stroke Ratio: 1.54
  • Power:
  • Redline: 8000 rpm
Where as the B18B1 has a redline of 7,200 rpm stock.
  • Displacement: 1,834 cc (111.9 cu in)
  • Compression: 9.2:1
  • Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
  • Stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in)
  • Rod Length:5.394in
  • Rod/Stroke Ratio: 1.54
  • Power: 142 hp (106 kW) @ 6300 rpm & 127 ft·lbf (172 N·m) @ 5200 rpm
  • Redline: 6800 rpm
Looking at stroke, rod length and R/S ratio, everything is the same. Does this mean that the B18B1 can rev to 8,000rpm redline as well?

I am asking b/c I am thinking of going Budget LsV and avoiding bottom end work would save a lot of money.

thanks

i reved my complete stock b18b to 8200rpm everyday. it was also turbo with a t3/t4 57trim 10psi. i sat on the rev limiter to get traction. i did it for a year didnt have any problems.

just change the rod bolts to arp and you be golden if you are worried

Mean piston speed at 8000 rpm on an engine with a 3.5" stroke would be 4648 feet per minute which is below the generally accepted maximum of 5000 fpm. Just use good rod bolts and you should be OK.

The stock cams used may have been the deciding factor for the different redlines.

I would agree with this. What are the differences in stock static compression ratios? Are the port sizes different in the heads?

read this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...4#post39038834

it is obvious wiki has the specs wrong and is not trustworthy as usual!

^^^ ahhh...thanks...that makes sense

For a moment, I thought that IF the bottom end could rev safely to under 8,000 from the factory, it would make LsV a lot easier for a lot of people.

Unfortunately, buying a vtec longblock will still be a cheaper way of going vtec.

thanks!
