If you have zero compression in one cylinder, you have a major problem. Either valve(s) are bent, chipped or burnt in that cylinder. Your valve seals have nothing to do with compression readings.

Does the car sound like a Subaru?

Needs rebuilt obviously, where in the engine exactly we won't know until it's taken apart. I love my B-series, but honestly you can get a pretty fresh D15B longblock for $575 plus shipping from www.hmotorsonline.com. That's where I got my B16 swap, shipping should be under $200, that's all you need though.

The transmission is exactly the same, you can opt for a LSD tranny in the D15B, but I would just get a fresh longblock and bolt your existing tranny up. (Unless your tranny is in bad shape too.)

Another option of course is rebuilding the engine, or just replacing what needs replaced in it, but it might take more time and you should compare the costs.

x2 at buying another head,

doing a valve job is too much time and money and a simple head swap is imo is sufficient

So, most likely it's just head related and has nothing to do with the block? If this is true then I guess just pick up another head for cheap.

Yeah, the thought of getting a nice condition, low milage engine was fun, but if you can get one locally for cheap... just be cautious of what you're buying.

A simple hour of your time doing a Valve Adjustment "might" be all it takes. The reason I say this is because a few years ago my Brother brought his 95 Civic EX with stock D16Z6 by my house and said it seemed to be missing.

I went out and started looking it over and found that Cylinder 3 was indeed missing. I did a compression test(do not remember numbers)and Cylinders 1, 2, & 4 were all acceptable. However, Cylinder 3 was really low, I don't think it was zero but it was low. Off came the Valve Cover and I set Cylinder 3 at TDC on Compression Stroke and one of the Intake Valves was to tight not allowing the Valve to close all the way. I figured the Valve Seat had already been cut but I adjusted it to spec. Closed it back up, said a little prayer, and its been fine ever since and runs like a champ. Its had a TON more miles put on it.

probably a bent valve or it stuck. you could replace all the valves if you know how if not swap on another y8 head

ok thanks guys ill check the valves tomorrow. where can u get a d16y8 long block for 200? i rather do that. but in any case i still need to pull the head to inspect it. if its the valves do i jus get new valve or is there like seals i have to change? one more thing does any body know if the valves from a y7 the same as the y8? thanks

You don't pull the Head to check Valve Clearances. Just the Valve Cover

if its the valves do i jus get new valve or is there like seals i have to change?

If your asking that I would do more research before attempting replacing valves.
