Default Tips on launching a potential 9 sec car.

Viren, Jinx some of you guys driving 9-10sec FI cars!!. I have loads of power put cant seem to put it down, can you guys offer any driving tips. The problem I am having is once I am at 100% throttle it rips the tyres(28x10) in 1st and 2nd. If I smoke the tyres the car will bog if I shift. Feathering the throttle is difficult also because when the power comes on it rips the tyres no matter what. How much tyre pressure should I use? Should I feather the throttle or turn down the power and use the hi boost feature. The track where I race is pretty bad and I am hoping to get some advice.
Thanks

2 stage boost...low boost in first gear and turn in on in second. You could try turning down the boost and lesson the power because if your spinning, your not going anywhere. And yeah...keep going lower on tire pressure. Launching out the hole doesnt need to feather the gas, you need the ride the crap out of the clutch. Dont let it completly hookup out the hole. This is gonna be rough on the clutch...but it works like a charm.....Mike

being a tranny guru,

Low-medium boost in first, but a LONG first gear like in the SPOON road race tranny.

Someone in Indiana by the name of John Lingenfelter help me on idea. My idea would have pushed the C&D 40th vette 15 mph faste, but no one will ever know

Really, thats one impressive car! too bad it never lived up to all that hype that once surrounded that car since it was one of the 1st Pro-Import Honda to land a big sponsor like that.I think it won more races when it was in street driven form racing under the turismo name, remember, when it was painted white,i think it was the 1st car to run 10s with a factory honda ecu back in 98 and also was the quickest honda on the east coast at that time. anyway, sorry if i got a little off topic, thats one bad *** car, saso, did you ever play with the adjustment for the wheelie bars?

Not the same car. That was a 1994 Civic EX Coupe. The Castrol car is a 6th gen based chassis. I used to be at Moroso when John would test and tune the cars... its funny how all of his builds sound the same.

Oh and for the owner of the car having the trouble launching.. I have an easy fix.. hire me to pilot it (But I hear you live in the islands or something?)

heres a tip for your tilton clutch. First things first, you can ride it...esp. the full carbon one....just takes some seat time. Second is...keep that clutch as cool as possible. The more heat you get in that clutch, the more it wants to grab. The better it grabs, the more it goes up in smoke. Basicly you want to ride it, or make it slip a little. Do your burnouts only in the water and keep the very short. You can heat them up enough in the water and stop right when you carry it out of the box so your not doing it on the dry. This will lessen the clamp load of the clutch. Also if your racing, in between rounds get a fan and put it on the clutch. Keep it nice and COOL.....Mike

try a tire pressure close to 7 psi. you can go 6, but i wouldn't go lower. between 6 and 7. the dual stage boost controller would be good for you to. low boost in 1st and 2nd and high boost in top of second or bottom of third.

what are you launching at??

Well, it's not as easy as it my sound when replacing just the first gear. If you were to change to a taller first gear your would have to change the rest of you gears as well. For example: using 2nd gear for first, 3rd gear for second, 4th gear for third and 5th gear for fourth and what about Fifth? Understand what I'm getting at?

Autometer Datalogger, tuning horsepower versus traction with taht thing dropped almost a second for Vinny Ten I heard once, can't remember where though. Thats why I like the new AEM EMs, the ability to get enough readings to tune for traction. But I heard the Data Logger has the capability to run sensors for clutch slippage amongst many other things, been a while since I've heard about this product.
