JDM Type S camshaft on stock H22A1....?
I find a set of JDM type S camshaft for a reasonable price. And I was just wondering if it possible to run it in a stock H22A1 motor without having to change the valve, retainer and etc.........???????? Will it due any damage to the motor........?????? Any suggestion or advise........is appreciate it............
i have a friend who did it, not sure if he upgraded the valvetrain or just bought new OEM ones, but it runs and works well on his fairly stock h22a.
hope that helps somewhat.

IIRC it has something to do with VALVE ANGLE 45* vs 60*
I never spent much time reading into it after seeing 3-5whp gains that criss cross in the powerband compared to stock cams.
People have installed them and HOPED for huge gains.......There's NO logic to it because a PTS/ATR only makes about 15-17whp more than a Black-Top H22 and the extra power comes from Cams, Pistons, Head porting, Intake manifold.

since the skunk 2 have more lift wouldnt they damage the rocker more? and i believe i have a jdm prelude but how do i know for sure if its jdm or usdm>? i did some reading and MikeLuder seems to be right... Though there is not a common consensus that even on a usdm that type s cams will wreck your engine.. though it has happened to some
I ran type s cams on a jdm head for about 3 years with no incident. The type s head has 2 angles cut into the valve seat of the head. The angles are 45 and 60. This improves airflow.
type S cams are a waste of money. You will not see the full benefits on a stock block and they are not the best cam on the market either.
If you are going to do camshafts choose the cam shaft that would suit your long term goals rather than putting something in your car because it is "Type S".

I guess it could very well be NOT having a very good tune Pre-S1Cam and then tuning the whole setup.....although I don't think this is the case because we compared it to a stock cam'd H22 on the same dyno.
Very worthwhile for the $550 I spent........considering my h/e combo was only worth 15whp/9tq at twice the price.
