Yup. So I heard a metallic clunking noise that started around 2000rpm. It was generally sparatic, and sounded like it was coming from the transmission area. I dropped my trans to check it out and when I took out the large bolt that covers the snap ring area I noticed that my snap ring was in 3 pieces! I split the case and everything looks fine inside the case, no gear/bearing wear...any idea how this could have happened? Or whether this could be causing the noise from the transmission. Obviously I'm going to buy a new snap ring tomorrow from Honda, but should I be replacing anything else in there while it's apart?


Maybe a different issue, but the transmission never liked shifting into first or reverse, maybe because of play in the countershaft when the snap ring began to fail?

with the snap ring in pieces, how did you get the countershaft to release to remove the outer case?

 

the snap ring wasnt holding the countershaft in place anymore, so it was easy to seperate the case
