Default Input shaft bearing or throwout bearing

Ive asked this question in other forums and I get mixed answers... maybe i will get a better one here.

When im in gear the tranny whirrs
When I step on the clutch the noise goes away
When im in neutral there is no noise with the clutch pressed

Would this be the input shaft bearing or the throwout (clutch) bearing.

**UPDATED** read below.

Could it be the ISB and the Throwout?

TOB if bad will make noise with clutch disengaged, yours is making noise with clutch engaged.

Update:
I dropped the tranny and changed the ISB. I put everything back together and now my gears are really hard and I cant get into reverse. It doesnt even grind reverse.

I made sure that the gear selector was put in neutral along with the forks.

Got any suggestions?

No because they are spring loaded.

Now the problem with the gears being hard has to do with the way you put the tranny back together.

As for the previous problem, was that fixed?

You mean the bearing? If that was your question than yeah I changed the bearing without a problem.

My guess is that there is something wrong with the way im putting something back together.

Gear selector and forks? I mean this isnt that difficult, but I dont know what to look for as far as something wrong.

i've seen many people either not replace the detent bolt crush washer, or lose it, and cause all sorts of shifting issues.

Buy a book and start over

All the washers on the detent bolt are accounted for So I dont really see where I could have messed up...

Its not rocket science, but I cant seem to get it right. I'll try messing with it some more lol.

I am having the same issues trying to fix this noise that goes away with the clutch pressed in.

I believe you can over tighten these spring loaded bolts especially if the washer is missing or too thin. I did it on my first rebuild and could not shift. Upon tear down the ball had pushed itself into the bolt.
