Need advice on buying a 98 Accord
A friend of mine at work wants to sell me his 98 Accord for $600. It has full suspension, I/H/E, and some other stuff. Only thing is he said he rode the front brakes down till they locked up. He knows next to nothing about cars but the shop he took it to said he need rotors, pads, brake lines, and that the pistons in the calipers locked up. I'd be doing the work myself and all the parts for the fix came out to like $250. Would the car be worth buying? And how hard is it to push the pistons back in on a locked up caliper? I've had Civics but never an accord.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

You definitely want to replace the calipers not push the pistons back in on them. Brakes are easy to fix yourself. Good deal on price as long as the tranny works good. Biggest problem on this car is the tranny.
More times that not a catastrophic failure do to negligence is accompanied by other issues. basically it could be a lemon.
it's worth it to take it to a qualified honda specialist and have a used car inspection done. that way you can find out as much as possible before you buy a $600 burden and invest time and money in it.
