Ugggh.. S2K or Si.. that is the question
Im pretty positive that posting in this forum will cause an overwhelming support for the S2K.. but here it is.. I have a 14K-15K (max) budget to buy a new car.. probably not till summer though so i still have time to save. Here in NJ the S2K's are primarily high mileage S2K's 60+ but for the same i can find a low milage Si (07/08)... so my thing is.. would it be feasible to get the high mileage S2K? even though it may already have 60K+ miles on the engine.. its going to be my DD... i currently drive a EM2.. getting tired of trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill... so i think im going to abandon my sneeze project
60k+ miles is not high mileage for a S2. What year S2000 are you looking for?
Youre gonna lose trunk space if you decide on the S2.
Youre gonna have to learn the characteristics of your RWD S2.
Youre gonna pay a higher insurance premium w/ the S2.
Youre gonna have room for only one ho.
etc...
If the previous owner stayed on top of all the scheduled maintenance, youre S2 will last well over 160k miles. Good luck

thanks.. but i only got 1 ho lol.. trunks space i can car less for nothing but a few socket wrenches are going to be in there anyway.. and insurance is going to be under the parents til at least im over 25.. im 22 now.. im hearing alot about wind noise with the S2K.. is it really that bad? and since its potentially going to be my DD.. how does the heat hold up during the winter? never had a drop-top (one of the reasons im also in love with it)
You get use to the wind noise... and most owners will tell you, "its really not bad". Maybe thats because most of the time youre hearing that F20 under the hood. And that makes up for any "wind" noise.
Go and test drive both cars. I shouldve recommended that first.
Whats winter...???

If you're worried about wind noise, the s2k isn't for you because you're gonna hear a lot more than that. When I did a few s2k test drives, the road noise seemed louder than anything.
Some people can tolerate an s2k as a daily driver so you shouldn't automatically rule it out if you're going to use it as one. The fact is however, there are much better cars suited for that duty and I think a 4 door si is probably a better choice.
Considering your age and the possibility it won't be garage, I would say a 4 door si is a better choice for you. Sure the S you score you more points with the ladies, but the tradeoff probably isn't worth it. To top it off, like you pretty much stated, there's more value in a SI if you're on a limited budget.
good luck!

the insurance thing is true but when officer pigdog pulls over an Si, it's almost a guaranteed ticket. when they pulled over that one silverstone s2k and later the suzukablue turbo s2k they let him go. profiling ftl for the honda civic type SI iVTECNAFTWK20KFCBBQWTF's
and the decision is completely based on the OP's needs. If he needs trunkspace, passenger space, quietness(though a hardtop would make it much quieter) then he will pick the SI. But from what I've read (like 3 posts) it sounds like the OP's priority is reliability with a undercurrent of "fun" for spirited driving. I think the S2000 would be the better choice, but don't take my word for it, go DRIVE both and see how you feel.
don't forget that the S2000 makes you 10x more badass then civics. cuz with the new civics, there is NO WAY you can possibly make it look aggressive. The lines are smooth with little accent, the body is tall so you can't make it look slammed, and you will get the worst 2ndgear/reverse grind you've ever experienced in your life.

I just got my 05 with 64k on it...I had a 4 hour drive home..it was the best 4hour drive in my life..just the fact that i finally had my s2000 after years of hard work and sacrifice made it all worth it..Civic Si is nice but an s2000???? Just saying it....s2000...still puts a smile on my face and im sure others who have experienced it...and thats what it is..an experience..a true sports car. If thats what you want...go and get it..if you dont like it you can down grade to the si, drive it and you'll instantly fall in love with it. When I test drove mine, i loved it..i didnt want to come back in 2 days to get it was that great....i wanted it then. Test drive both and see how you like them..good luck in your decision making.

The S2000 will win every contest of speed except the "who can get 5 people to the grocery store faster" race.
The S2000 looks 10X better (fact, not opinion).
The Si has more room, is quieter, and has a better stereo. It also comes with options for nav.
The Si also has a fixed roof, which is nice for the winter months. Although...you can buy a hardtop for the S2000. The Si is also going to be much much better in the snow.
The Si would be a WAYYYY better daily driver depending on your needs. The S2000 is WAYYYYYY more fun and looks better.
Which one is more important to you?
I'd be torn as well....luckily I have both
...although my Si is a 99, not a 06+. My dillema is choosing between the 06+ Si and the TSX for a future DD. I'm siding with the TSX.

I'm not sure whats there to talk about. If you already have a daily driver & wont use your s2k in the winter time you might as well get it. no point having 2 of basically the same exact car. I'd rather keep an em2 & have a s2k as a weekend car/whatever car than saying hey i have the new si & em2 which are basically the same. Now you should consider the cost of maintenance, insurance, tires for the s2k vs the si. If you still can afford to keep the s2k in proper order id say theres nothing more to think about other then what color & wheels to get for the s2k.

?? I think he was saying he was going to get rid of his EM2? or...no?
If you're going to keep the EM2, then then S2000 is the OBVIOUS choice. You'd be brain damaged to get the Si. Why the hell would you get a Si if you allready have another civic?
Hopefully the OP meant he was getting rid of the EM2.

jk lolbut really meng! s2000 FTW!
Ya the S is the way better choice. You are gonna enjoy it a lot more. DD is fine but just get good tires if you get winter. I would recommend one with glass rear window as well, it's a pain to get ice off the plastic one. There are plenty of ways to reduce the wind noise, mine doesn't bother me at all. The trunk space really isn't that bad, well... compared to the SI yes, but you can fit more in there than you think. Plus if you get AP2 then there are small compartments in the interior and it is actually very useful. Plus.., sadly, they discontinued the S2000 so get it while you can!
